Thank you to our volunteer date keeper. I have no idea how to reestablish that. I'll have to ask Paul. I guess it's also about time for a trim.

Hi everyone! What a beautiful picture, Cat. Such exuberance. :D A happy belated birthday to you, Cat. I did a quick scroll, am sure I missed stuff. Janet, was thinking of you, how exciting about your new grand daughter! Congratulations to the whole family. Anyway we have had a busy few weeks. Ryan turned 2 on June 28th, and we took a trip to Disney Wolrd with the rest of the family. Had to drive from Atlanta to Orlando, which was kind of a pain, and then we had to drive the entire way back from Orlando to WI. We were flying standby and flights were full. It was still a lot of fun, though! Puck, I thought of you when we drove down I-75 ( I think it was?), saw the exit to your town at 3 am. ;) Since we got home we've been busy with the kids and their swimming and gymnastic lessons, but it's been a pretty fun summer so far. Going by way too quickly, though! Anyway gotta run but hope everuone is doing well. Take care, will try to pop in again soon. :)

ELESSANN - It seems Soap comas have the advantage of putting the patient into a state of suspended animation. No eating, no elimination. Just a sleeping beauty.
Diane

And who's been shaving him. And taking care of bodily functions. And why his hair isn't a mile long....
Puck

Just wondering - how long can a comatose-like person (i.e. Todd) go without nourishment? All I've seen him being given is some kind of knock-out drug.

Lisa: If I could find that photo quickly, I would post it, but i have no clue where it is. What a fun day that was - the museum was wonderful, too!
janet

CONNIE - I will try and commit that to memory and try it next time! I will let you know about my success -- THANK YOU!

I watched GH: Night Shift (taped from last night). It's interesting, but it's jarring. Jason's out of jail inexplicably, for example. The other is that since it's late night cable, so some of the things you'd never expect from a soap are there -- like Cooper and Maxie having realistic sounding and realistic looking sex, with her handcuffed to a pipe above, then Coop couldn't find the key when Mac showed up. A LOT of skin, too.

Diane – The method I gave for leg cramps would be good for someone to do to someone else but doesn’t really work for you to do for yourself since you can’t reach your toes to pull them back while keeping your leg straight. At least not with a leg cramp. lol The best thing to do is stand, putting pressure on the cramped leg and lean forward to get the effect of “toes to nose”. Once you put pressure on the ball of your foot and straighten out the leg, it just takes the cramp away. Hope it works for you!
Connie

Janet- from what I could see, Ms. Paige looks lovey! I also checked out your web page...gee, no photos from FAO Schwartz from several years ago??? ;D Or would that take away all your credibility wearing a propeller hat?!

Janet~ Congratulations on your new granddaughter. She's a cutie.
Josie

CAT - They should make a poster out of that picture of your niece. It's so triumphant. Very uplifting.
Diane
-
JANET - SHe's gorgeous! I just posted on your blog, and it has my blog name as Truthseeker. I guess I've used that before on some other blog and it carried it over. Didn't know how to change it so I jsut left it. But that's me. :)
Diane

They were just messing around - having a great time. I love her expression, though. She is always smiling. Just a little ray of sunshine.
Cat
-
Janet what a doll! All these GB babies are making me want another one!
Christine
-
Hmm....they all show up for me. Anyway, I think she's a doll. Such pretty features, and they think her hair will be naturally curly, an anomaly in the j family.
Janet
-
Merfuff, I set up my blog all by myself. If you go to www.blogspot.com I'll bet you can do it, too. And it's free!
Janet

1PM CDT 7/10 Oh Grammy, Paige is lovely! And so are her folks....blogsite works fine - did J compile it for ya? Smooches to all!
Merfuff

"Paige with Mom" isn't showing up, but everything else is there!
Puck

I have just started a blog. Pictures of the baby are at janetkayjensen.blogspot.com. If you try to access it, let me know if it works!
Janet
-
CONNIE - Thank you for the way to release a leg cramp quicker. I'm going to try and remember that for next time. You've been to alot of great states. I've never been to Oregon, but I would really like to someday. I'll bet the hiking is awesome up there. Like NY state.
Diane
-
JANET - Doh, I should have scrolled. I see that you will see baby Paige in just 4 more weeks!
Diane
-
PATTY B - How special that all your siblings got together for your mother's 90th birthday! Good for her! And all of you!
Diane
-
CAT - LOL! that picture! That's the same face I've seen on Olympians when they are sure they just won their first gold medal!
Diane
-
CONGRATULATIONS, Nanna JANET!!! How exciting!!! When will be the first time you'll get to go visit her?
Diane
-
wonderful photo, Cat! Baby Paige comes home today. Her other grandmother is there and LOVES babies, has a big family and lots of grandkids, so she will be very helpful with getting used to a newborn. Kevin is on cloud nine. Our kids in Finland are very anxious to have a baby (she miscarried in May) and it was a little hard on them to hear about this one. But they'll eventually have one of their own, I'm sure.
Janet

poor Max, that IS the face of victory, great smile

Janet: Ohio! Well thats a heck of a lot closer than Finland! Congrats again. Someday (soon) I'll need you advise on "letting go" of our kids. Mine is getting ready for college this fall and I am a wreck. I know he needs to experience the world and move on with his own life but what about mommy???? LOL

Congratulations! I always liked that name. Best wishes to all. The photo is one of my neice. She is exulting in a triumph over Max.

Congratulations Janet! How exciting for you. What a beautiful name. Cat, also a belated congratulations to you and your family. What a gorgeous baby. We just celebrated my mother's 90th birthday a couple of weeks ago. This is the first time my siblings have all been together for over nine years. It was just wonderful. Merf, so sorry to read about your mishap. I hope you are feeling better. My mother-in-law has one of those devices that connects her with emergency services. She is a severe diabetic and lives alone. I am pretty sure that Medicare covers it for her. You might check with them too

This baby lives in Dayton, Ohio, and i'll visit first week in August. I don't know how it will be to have grandchildren as far away as Finland!

sorry for the dbl post, my brain is slow this time of day, good thing it isn't 5:30 or it might have been atleast a triple post........

Janet: Congrats! How exciting for you and grandpa! When will you be taking off to Finland to hold this bundle of joy? and yes, tell Kevin there are many GB aunts here wanting to see her! Merf: what about transferring your house phone to a cell phone, thus you can carry something small and compact with you, get fantastic deals with long distance and in some cases you might be able to get it as cheap if not cheap than a land line (depends on the amount of chattin' you do)

Yeah, Emilia is after her mom, emily, but it will always be misspelled. However, middle names aren't used too often . . . . we were actually afraid they'd get really creative with a first name that would always be mispronounced so this is OK by us. ....... Lisa: doing OK, thanks. soooooooooo much better than this time a year ago. i should be walking more for my back's sake, but I've had some fluid on my knee and the doc says stay off it when I can, so there you have it. ......the hospital does have a baby picture gallery but so far nothing's been posted. And Kevin has taken a lot of pics but hasn't emailed them yet. He spent the night at the hospital so I don't even know if he's been home yet. We are anxious to see what she looks like!
Janet

Paige is indeed a lovely name! But did you drop a hint that they misspelled Amelia? *ducking*
Puck

Congratulations, Janet! Paige is a very pretty name. :) BTW - how have you been doing with your surgeries and recovery?

Paige Emilia was born 9:45 eastern time. 6 lbs 14 oz. 20 in long. She is healthy and "beautiful" and took to breastfeeding right away. DIL is exhausted and sore but OK. So we are very anxious to see pictures! Mr. J was on the computer last night or I would have posted before I went to bed!

Nno - - Kevin called 2 hours ago and said GUESS WHAT? and I said THE BABY's HERE! and he said no, but it's sure fun to tease you. I said enough already, he'd used up his quota. She was dilated to about 7, had just had an epidural and was drowsy. I didn't think they made you drowsy. Anyway, they are making progress and he says she's doing well. And when the baby comes, he will be busy for a while helping to weigh and measure and all that exciting stuff . . . so I'm still waiting . . . . .
Janet

No word must mean that baby is here!

ATTENTION GH FANS and satellite dish owners! -- SoapNet premiers the GH spinoff "GH: Night Shift" (herein after referred to in SOD TIDBITS as GHNS), Thursday at 11pm. The ads are VERY sultry, and the late time makes me wonder if this is going to be more.....um......"adult" than a regular soap! Of course, it might be that they don't want to interfere with their established "soaps the same day" schedule, which runs 7pm to 11pm. This is eastern time, BTW.
Puck
-
"front of the foot"??? I meant top of the foot -- the toes.
Connie
-
jennifer - I didn't know little kids got leg cramps. Poor girl! The best way to stretch out a leg cramp is to gently pull the front of the foot back toward the shin. To remember this, the saying is "toes to nose". It straightens out the back of the calf and relaxes the cramped muscle. It's similar to the stretch runners do before they go out running. And the best part is the cramp goes away quickly and doesn’t leave the leg sore like it is if you just suffer through it.
Connie
-
Merfuff - Yes, I would definitely check if your Soc. Sec. benefits would cover a Medical Alert device. I just did a quick check online, and there are many companies. The cost range per month is anywhere from $15 - $30. Some transmitters can be worn as a wrist strap or clip on attachment instead of the usual neck strap. I'd be a little concerned with the neck strap, that you could catch it on something on your way down and end up choking on it. Anyway, I'd just go with whatever company Soc. Sec. might cover, and then figure out the best way to wear it. I really hope you can get one because you definitely could benefit from it. Unless you can teach Mooch kitty to dial a phone! =^..^=
Connie
-
My SIL just got one of those alert devices. Wears it around her neck. If she presses it the people at the office call her. If she can talk, there's a speaker on her phone. If not, they start calling everybody on her list. Or they call an ambulance. She falls frequently and I've been after her to carry the mobile phone in her pocket or get a cell phone, or one of these devices. So we're glad she has it.
Janet

Just scrolled down a bit....MERF! You poor thing. I hope you're feeling a little better. It hurt just reading that :( cw- good catch on the 10,000...I couldn't hear the amount he said clearly and was going to rewind but didn't bother.
Kathleen

How exciting, Janet, keep us posted!!! 1-2 minutes is great....hopefully it'll happen VERY soon!!

1P CDT 7/9 LisaG, 'broke your butt' - LOL! Yeah, Janet, it did a lot of harm to fall that hard and work so hard to get the whey up. Who said 'med-alet'? Gonna see if Social Security might cover monthly bill, which I bet is formidable. Wheeee, new baby, Grandma Janet! My best wishes on the way....Jennifer, I feel like a nitwit NOT to have warned of the chasms at SD Zoo. The zoo train ride is really worth it despite the wait. My pal SueN saw a sweatshirt slogan which asked, 'If a beer makes you laugh aloud, is that a "brewhaha"'? Good 'un. Why doesnae Cole spill more on Todd's whereabouts than, 'Ask Miles'? Dipwit. I anticipate return of old fave actors in Aug, but already dread Asa' 'death'. Foop.
Merfuff
-
Good luck to your son and his wife on the baby. Maybe you'll know before the end of the day?.................................I'm watching a remarkably interesting program on a new network called "Ovation" (channel 274 on DirecTV). It's called "The Private Life of a Masterpiece". So far I've seen three episodes, on Degas' Little Dancer, Rembrandt's Night Watch, and Whistler's mother. I had no idea the Little Dancer was so controversial when it came out!

jennifer, glad you had a great time. Yeah, the walking is the worst part. . . our valley is very smoky today due to wildfires in our state, makes the eyes sting. Morning: Today is my last day of vacation. Not sure what I'm doing up at 5:26 AM on a Monday. :) MERFUFF: Sorry to hear about the fall. Hope all is well. WE flew home Saturday night. Plane was a half hour taking off, kids tired. Samantha got a cramp in her leg as we were landing, and Sawyer cried along with her on the landing. Everyone giving us advice about their ears popping, when that wasn't the problem at all. Trip was wonderful, but the zoo nearly killed me. Beautiful, but why in the world do they have such steep inclines to get to things? Major thing on Samantha's list of "must see" was the polar bear and you had to walk up this steep HILL to get to it. I'm surprised my knee held out. Maybe I'm in better shape than I thought? No, that can't be. :):):) Glad to be home to cooler weather, but we will be in the 90's this week. Suitcase still sitting inside the front door. Just vegged yesterday and caught up on AMC. LOVE the stuff between Adam and Zach. Finally, TK has someone to "act" with.

Janet my parents were just in Utah, I will have to aske them what part and if they heard or saw anything (I am sure not). They are going to the Grand Canyon today. And when I talked to my son he said it is VERY hot.
christine
-
We are having our biggest wildfire in history here in Utah. It's not too close to us but smoke is traveling quite a distance and no luck on containing the fire. ....I like NM too . . . would love to visit it again. My parents lived in Gallup, which I realize probably wasn't typical of the state, but I have been to Philmont and the ski areas and Taos and Albuquerque, all very nice places. My Finnish kids just got back from Slovenia and Croatia. . . what travelers they are.
Janet
-
cw – Good catch on the use of 10,000! I thought they meant they were only going to do it the two weeks before the anniversary, but they must be mixing it in already._________Christine – I hope your parents and child planned lots of indoor places to visit, or sightseeing from their car. One thing for sure, they’ll never forget that vacation!!___________Merf – Your fall sounds terribly painful and frustrating (to be unable to get up). You might want to check into one of those medical alert transmitters or something like that to call a friend to come help. I don’t know how they work exactly, but it seems like something that might come in handy. Hope the pain is lessening.
Connie
-
Diane – Sedona is beautiful!! It reminds me a lot of NM because they have similar elevation and vegetation. NM has a rugged beauty that just can’t be described. It holds a special place in my heart and is a big contender for our retirement place. Oh, I forgot to mention that we also lived in OR for almost a year. (My husband had to go up there for training so we kept our home here.) That is also a beautiful state… very different from the southwest! I love the ocean and the waterfalls! But the weather is a bit much to get used to. (Sorry, jennifer. lol) NM probably has the best weather – not as cold as PA (and what you remember in NY) and not as hot as here!!
Connie
-
Merfuff, I really sympathize with your incident! One morning a few years back I was getting ready for work and as I went down my stairs I fell and hit my tailbone. I ended up going in to work, but leaving because I could not sit down and was in such pain. IT took my several weeks to get over it and on occasion I still get pain there.
christine
-
OUCH! Sorry to hear you "broke your butt", Merf! I did that once on a high school ski trip...fell on a patch of ice while skiing...couldn't sit down during the entire 2 hour bus ride home. Hope you heal fast!
LisaG
-
MERF - I concur -- OOUCH on the tailbone injury! I've heard how much those things hurt! I hope you have something for pain.
Diane
-
Merf -- OUCH! I'm sorry about the tailbone pain. Sweetie sympathizes -- his Workers Comp injury concerns the tailbone (a tractor fell over on him when he was trying to load it on a trailer)...........................................JOsie -- the interview sounds fascinating! I'll have to YouTube it.
Puck
-
Puck: Or the easter eggs on lost, or the Where's Waldo series? ....Merfuff, I am sorry to hear about your tumble. Did you damage anything, other than your pride?....it's been unusually warm here in Utah as well, probably breaking some records......anyone see Mike Wallace and son on C-span? That was fascinating, as each 'interviewed' the other. They have different views on a lot of things and love to argue accordingly. His son is on Fox, which Mike seems to feel is, well, illegitimate :)and that his son sold out when he left the big three networks. You could tell they relished their discussions with each other.
Janet
-
Janet, et al, I'm kinda ok, but I fell 3 weeks ago and my, uh, fanny (tailbone) landed on the harrrd plastic footrest of the powerchair...then it took me an hour to haul myself up off the floor. I sit 99% of the time, so Ms Tailbone is a literal PIT, er, fanny - thanks for askin'! If my hair gets much longer, I'll hafta hire a braider ;).....Did everyone register to see the photos of previous OLTL-ers? I HATE to register all over online....Jennifer, how I envy ya in SD - wave at my dear friend Kerm for me ;) Truly hope OLTL is smart enuf to hang onto Peter/Nigel....gumminy, ROFL at VIK/David raggin' the whack outa Dori - Dori is SO easy to bait!...Wish Marty would save herSELF - might redeem the character for me.

My parents and child are currently vacatining out west. they were in Phoenix and are going out to Las Vegas and the area...... nice time during this heat wave!

Puck

JENNIFER - Staying home with the kids with pizza and movie sounds like a great way to spend the evening! I would choose that over going out any day! Hope you have a safe trip back home.

CONNIE - I'll bet NM was lovely! A friend of mine just moved from Phoenix to outside of Albuquerque. I visited Santa Fe in the late 80's and really loved it. It was SO clean and the air was so fresh. I'm in LA. Yes, I think I like California the best to live in but I sure do love alot of things about Arizona and NY state where I'm from. I miss Sedona ALOT. Do you take trips up there? It's a nice break from that 3-digit heat since it's so much cooler up there, especially in Oak Creek Canyon. Ahh....I can feel the cool air now.
Diane
-
LOL Kathleen! That would be enough to cause insomnia!! BTW, I'm pretty sure I read that they are making David a Buch. Just don't know where they're going to go with that since TW isn't staying full time.
Connie
-
Connie - sorry to have THAT going through your mind as you were trying to sleep! You're having enough trouble already....I'm sure you didn't need OLTL's teens in your head ;-)
Kathleen
-
Oh, duh, NF is right in the beginning! I must have scrolled too quickly... It's so great to see so many old favorites!
Kathleen
-
I'm looking forward to seeing how they will fit in the number 10,000 in every episode for those two weeks. Should be fun, except for the fact that we'll be losing Asa. For Merf's sake, especially, I hope they find a way to keep Nigel. I read on another board a thought that maybe Asa would leave part of the mansion to Matthew (and Nora) and part to Bo, and they were hoping that would eventually bring Bo and Nora back together. (That would make me happy since Bo and Nora were my all-time favorite couple!!) And it could explain why the arson story took so long and has kept Nora in the mansion. Anyway, keep the mansion and keep Nigel!

Morning - Belated Happy Birthday - Cat!! just waiting for everyone to rise and shine. I seem to be the first one up every morning. New homes still being constructed in the area so I am greeted by the gentle drone of a cement truck doing its thing. Heading for the zoo today. Had a fairly quiet day yesterday. Everyone but Samantha and I headed for the beach. We went to the pool to practice her swimming and play "Go Fish." She is very into the card game now. I stayed home with kidlets last night - we had pizza and watched the final Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Samantha has a "crush" on Johnny Depp. I hadn't seen the movie before, but Samantha was gracious enough to tell me what was going to happen scene by scene. She told me the end 20 minutes into the movie, which I guess was a good thing as we all only lasted until 10:30.

Charles Gibson must not be used to being Paparazzo-stalked, because he has quite the idiotic look on his face! MY HEAVENS, but Cordero looks fantastic, for such an old guy! (kidding!). I'm thrilled to see Nathan Fillion -- I guess he's now CONFIRMED, rather than "maybe" signed on to do it! Merf, there are Nigel pics!!!
PUck

It's awesome to see Cord and Kevin!!!
Kathleen
-
Connie - thanks for posting that link...those pictures are great! I guess Charles Gibson happened to walk by or something at the end there? Oh, and I didn't mean the actual musical we saw, but the part where Starr was in the dressing room getting ready for the 'real' musical (the one Blair had taped)...that same evening Marcie and Michael went out for dinner (and it was Jen's birthday memory, etc.)
Kathleen
-
Wow...Jane Fonda is on the Letterman show...she said she's going to be turning 70 soon...she looks amazing!!!
LisaG

Puck - That's hilarious!!_________Kathleen - I was wondering about that too. I'm thinking the musical was taped out of sequence from the rest of the stuff, and they weren't very careful when they edited it all together.__________Here are some great photos of the actors who were there for taping the 10,000th episode -- http://www.digitalrailroad.net/StevenBergman/Production/PhotoGroupView.aspx?pbid=4&msa=1&pgid=9843104

Connie -- Sweetie has a THICK Georgia accent. I can mimic it, when I need to (when I'm in Southern company, or trying to make a point when I'm teaching). I've definitely picked up some words and phrases, like "I done did it" -- although I know better to use THAT when I'm teaching!!
Puck
-
Oh, and did anyone notice some major continuity issues? The night of Starr's play was the longest night ever! All that stuff with John/Marty/Miles, and then she goes off to Cole's play. In the meantime, Lindsay babysat while Michael & Marcie went to dinner. She even put Tommy down to sleep. So did Marcie just skip the musical then? That's pretty odd since she was in charge?! Is it me, or was this really bad?
Kathleen
-
Speaking of different areas of the country… Puck, we had a phone message today from someone from GA, and, boy, is that a thick southern accent!!! I think you said Sweetie is from there, but are you? And, if not, have you picked up the accent at all, or do you stand out like a sore thumb?
Connie
-
Diane – I knew you’d lived in Phoenix, but I didn’t know how long. We moved here from PA in ’83, spent a few years here, then 12 years in NM, then back here about 9 years ago. I love the monsoons too, not only for the rains but for the change of pace from constant sunshine. lol What part of CA are you in – near LA? Is it always that dry there? Have any of the fires ever been near you? We drove I-5 last fall on the way to Sequoia and Yosemite and had to drive through the smoke from one of those fires. It gave me a really bad headache, so I pity anyone who has to live near that. Do you like CA the best of any of the places you’ve lived?
Connie
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FgMLROTqJ0 Ok, my last word on the subject...Unless a woman is attacking a man or has hit him, there's absolutely no excuse for him hitting her. Heck, that rule goes for anyone...unless you're defending yourself, there's no excuse to hit someone. This clip absolutely disgusts me.
LisaG

I will not even entertain you all as to what I see when I see Sean Connery.... I know about all the wife beating stuff but I don't just don't beleive its as he is being portrayed. As for James Bond, he was the best ever.

JANET - I worked in the Transition area of a Headstart program in Phoenix, and I think the grade schools are still very good in Phoenix. I got to travel to several of them to complete a research project, and if I had had kids, I would have wanted them to go to schools like that.
Diane
-
jennifer, glad to hear you're having a wonderful time. Expect your sunburned scalp to itch and peel. I burn so easily, and that's one place I sometimes forget to protect. ........ I lived in Phoenix for grades 2-6 and I remember our schools as being very good. Wonder where Merfuff is these days? Hope she is doing OK . . . . .
Janet
-
CONNIE - I didn't know you were in Chandler, AZ!! I lived in Phoenix for 2 years in the early-mid 90's. What a HOT place! I did enjoy the monsoons in August, though! Hopefully, you'll get your rain then. We only had one day of rain last October and probably won't get another day like that until this October if we're lucky. We could sure use the rain, too. JENNIFER - Ouch on the head! Hurts to comb your hair after that. The media room is in nephew's house?

Puck- me too! I wish they'd convince TW to stay, and then make him a Buchanan already!

I still can't watch Sean Connery without always thinking that he's a wife beater...very sad.

Kathleen -- yes I did! David is hilarious! I puffy-heart Tuc Watkins! I loved Viki's talking about his "classic lines", too. ...................................Jennifer -- totally agree that Craig is a great Bond, and I was VERY reminded of Sean Connery, especially in the tougher Bonds like "Dr. No".

BTW - did anyone else crack up at David's line about a horrible tan line due to his anklet? He delivers the funniest stuff!

Hello from sunny San Diego (actually Carlsbad). We are a Google site again - surprised to find the guestbook that way again. Enjoying the sun a lot other than burning the top of my head to a crisp. Spending time with the kids is a blast. We all went to Marine World yesterday and tomorrow the San Diego Zoo. Nepew's new home is lovely and I have my own private bedroom and bathroom. Might take them up on their offer of "anytime" more often. Spent first two days poolside working on a "tan." :) They have a "media" room so got to see the Daniel Craig "James Bond" movie - finally. I enjoyed it. Probably the best Bond since Sean Connery.

LisaG – I’ll send you some warmth if you send me some rain. Here in Chandler, AZ it got to 114 today and is supposed to again tomorrow. I don’t see how anyone survives in Las Vegas though!!__________I guess every pet is different as far as what they allow us to do to them. Our female cat is very pliable, but our male cat freaks out for just about anything. Here’s a picture of them from Cinco de Meowo -- http://members.cox.net/crayzee57/Gatos.jpg You’ll notice the hat is just sitting on top of his head! lol

Geez, the manufacturer is happy the plastic in his rubber duckies will last 100 years. How about sending this guy to a landfill for his next vacation to see all the plastic sitting in there for the next century. How wonderful. He needs to move into the year 2007. Got that gripe out of my system, so now Happy 4th of July, Everybody! Bummer about the rain on the east coast! My sister has alot of relatives over with baked beans, etc. and now everyone is indoors eating during the rain. Probably, though, local fireworks displays will reschedule their show for this weekend, hopefully. No wonder we missed CAT's birthday, the birthday schedule is gone.

*** HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!! *** Well, it's cold and rainy here in CT, but I think I'll take that over the weather out west...128 degrees in Las Vegas today!!! Yipes! Hope all you westerners stay cool! I'm going to spend the evening watching the musical "1776" and eating hot dogs....how American can you get? ;)

Oprah had the world's smallest dog on her show a while ago. The owner had dressed it in a flowered dress and Oprah asked her to take it off because 'prints make you look bigger on TV.' Anyway, it was a teeeeeny chihuahua. . . . . . and she had the world's tallest dog, a great dane, 7'2 when he stands on his hind feet and puts his paws on your shoulders. He is a therapy dog, just a real sweetheart. My dogs don't even like the bandanas the groomers put on them. . . . . . everybody have a safe and happy holiday.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,287759,00.html ---------------- Long-Lost Rubber Duckies Head for British Beaches.... Tuesday , July 03, 2007.... By Simon de Bruxelles, The Times ---------------- A flotilla of rubber duckies, washed overboard from a container ship in the North Pacific in 1992, is about to invade Britain, according to an American oceanographer. ---------------- For the past 15 years Curtis Ebbesmeyer has been tracking nearly 30,000 Chinese-made plastic bath toys — yellow ducks, green frogs, blue turtles and red beavers — that were released into the Pacific Ocean when a container was washed off a cargo ship during a storm. ---------------- Some of the bath toys, marketed in the U.S. as "Friendly Floatees," are expected to reach Britain after a journey of nearly 17,000 miles, having crossed the Arctic Ocean frozen into pack ice, bobbed the length of Greenland and been carried down the eastern seaboard of the United States. ---------------- Ebbesmeyer, who is based in Seattle, said yesterday that those that had not been trapped in circulating currents in the North Pacific, crushed by icebergs or blown ashore in Japan were bobbing across the Atlantic on the Gulf Stream. ---------------- Any beachcomber who finds one of the ducks or their kin will be able to claim a $100 reward from the toys' American distributor, The First Years Inc. ---------------- The ducks began life in a Chinese factory and were being shipped to the U.S. from Hong Kong when three 40-foot containers fell into the Pacific during a storm on Jan. 29, 1992. ---------------- Two-thirds of them floated south through the tropics, landing months later on the shores of Indonesia, Australia and South America. ---------------- But 10,000 headed north and by the end of the year were off Alaska and heading back westwards. ---------------- It took three years for the Friendly Floatees to circle counterclockwise east to Japan, past the original drop site and then back to Alaska on a current known as the North Pacific Gyre before continuing north towards the Arctic. ---------------- Many were stranded as the currents took them through the Bering Strait, which divides Alaska from Russia. ---------------- Ebbesmeyer predicted that they would spend years trapped in the Arctic ice, moving at the rate of one mile a day towards the Atlantic. ---------------- In 2000, eight years after their journey began, the ducks were reported in the North Atlantic. In 2003, when they were expected to wash up on the American eastern seaboard, The First Years announced the reward offer. ---------------- By that point the Floatees had been bleached white by the sun and sea water. ---------------- Sightings in the past two years have been scant, but oceanographers believe that their next port of call is southwestern England, southern Ireland and western Scotland. ---------------- Simon Boxall, of the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton, England, said that the ducks offered a great opportunity for climate-change research. ---------------- "They are a nice tracer for what the currents are doing as they travel around the world, and currents are what determines our climate, and cycles of carbon," he said. "I would ask [vacationers] to keep an eye out, as they might be very few and far between by now. It's a real adventure story and the plastic should last 100 years, so we hope it will continue." ---------------- The landfalls have all been logged on a computer model called the Ocean Surface Currents Simulation, which is used to help fisheries and find people lost at sea. ---------------- Two children's books have been written about the saga and the ducks have become collector's items, some changing hands for $1,000.

Hey Everybody!! Hope to catch up tomorrow ... in the meantime I have stumbled across some upsetting info ... I was looking for Sarah Roberts and this page came up from ABC ... http://abc.go.com/daytime/onelifetolive/characters/bio?pn=characterbio&character=Natalie%20Buchanan&longBio=true ......... more importantly, here is a quote: "Nieces: Sarah "Flash" Roberts, Megan Buchanan (deceased), Brennan Buchanan (deceased)" .......................... What did or is going to happen to Bree?? Have you heard any of this?????

Cole had better NOT give in to Miles, because he'd ruin it with Starr. ................LOL at Sarah's furniture. You guys have good eyes!....................TOTALLY LOVING David with Viki. But then, I'd love David with the local newspaper, an ugly cat, Home Shopping Channel, or reading the OT edge-of-your-seat books Judge and Numbers on tape.

The reason for Todd being offsscreen was so that TSJ could shoot two movies. I think that they should bring back RH as the real Todd and have dueling Todds until one turns out to be Mitch's brother and the father of Tommy. That way Miles can feel what is it is like to unwittingly fued with your own brother like everyone else in Llanview has. ................. I also really like how they brought up the (ancient) history between David and Viki (vivid?) with respect to him impersonating Todd.
cw

LOL cw.. I hadn't noticed that but that's so funny! and yes, I hope that Todd is back soon.and yuck to the preview I saw of Miles and Cole with Todd .. they have taken this story as far as it needed to go (and beyond IMO)...IF Cole does as Miles suggests/ask, I see this as a way for Miles to hang on to Marty even more, don'tcha think? :)
Anita

LOL cw!!! I too hope that Todd is out and about soon...

Anyone think the real reason David can't use the carrige house is because Viki gave all the furniture to Sarah? How else do you explain the furniture being in Sarah's apt. in Chicago?

I love the Vicki/David scenes. SO funny. I hope this storyline about Todd being dragged around like a sack of potatoes is wrapped up soon. It's dumb and I miss Todd. He needs to get vertical again and start kicking some butt.

CONNIE - Those foam ear plugs are great! And I have one of those rain machines, too. I used to use both things when my neighbor on the other side of the wall would start his caterwalling (that he thought was singing) every night. Problem was, I could still hear him faintly but it was better so I could go to sleep.
Diane

CONNIE - Thank you for the Laxtone info! I will stop by the pet supply store on my way home and get a tube (or however it comes). You know, I did the same thing with the doubling up of herbs. I bought some that didn't seem to be working at all. I was so exasperated. So then I just doubled it, and wala! It worked! I think some people just need more. Or at least in the beginning.

I agree about the mind. Sometimes I just have something I am worrying about or thinking about doing and can't sleep very easily. I will even wake up and think about it.

Janet & Diane – I exercised a little before getting ready for bed last night and also took two of the herbal supplements instead of just one, and I did finally sleep pretty good! :) Who knows if that’s repeatable, or if it was just bound to happen eventually. lol_____________Diane, thanks for all the info on Chinese herbs, etc. I will save it in case I need it. Today I pulled out a list my chiropractor had given me a few years ago, and he had suggested An Shen herbs, among other things. I have never tried any of the Chinese herbs, but I have passed by a few acupuncturist shops with Chinese writing on the windows, so I’m sure they would be a good source for them.____________I just thought of a few other little tips to share: foam ear plugs (I like Flents “Quiet Please”), a sleep mask to block out light, and a sound machine that makes sounds like a waterfall, rain, etc. Those are all things that help with external problems, but you’re right, Janet, turning off the mind is the hardest thing.

Diane – Yes, you can get Laxatone without a prescription. We used to buy ours from our vet, but now it’s even available at Petsmart and Petco. It comes in malt or tuna flavors. I just checked online and it’s on sale for $5.97 at Petco thru July 4th. (I assume that matches up to store prices, but I’m not sure.) Here’s a link to the product description -- http://www.petco.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=16730&cm_ven=biz&cm_cat=55&cm_pla=16730&cm_ite=16730#details And here is a link to some customer reviews, where one person specifically mentions how it helped their older kitty with constipation -- http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?cm_ven=bizrate&cm_cat=mercent&cm_pla=datafeed&cm_ite=53537&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023690&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302025585&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441778361&bmUID=1183341319229#detail There are also other brands which make hairball remedies with more natural ingredients, in case you want to avoid petroleum or mineral oil. We switched to one brand that has no sugar in it for our one cat, Molly, who tends to have a weight problem. And I just noticed one that has vitamins in it too, so I might look for that one next time -- http://www.petco.com/product/102772/Nutures-Nutri-Gel-3-in-1-Formula-for-Cats.aspx

CONNIE - Can I get that Laxotone without a presciption? PUCK - LOL! on the fake American names of the Indian tech support people! It is so funny. I swear, they have an accent that cannot be disguised. It just gets to be funny when you hear their American name like that will fool us! I heard my chiropractor answer the phone once. Boy, did he get mad. Apparently it was someone calling to accuse him of not meeting with some auditor or something like that. He says, "Your person never came out! We were here! We're open 5 days a week from 8:30 am until 6:30 pm! Your person never showed up. (a few seconds) I don't give a d*mn what your computer screen says. They weren't here. Come on -- I KNOW your in India so don't try and tell me who was here when they weren't!" Yeesh....right after that he wanted to adjust my neck....

Oh, CHRISTINE, something is SO rotten with that place. I can't believe it. They are crazy. Where do they get off telling you who to socialize with on your own time? I don't like it one bit. It sounds like they will screw you next chance they get. They probably don't like good people like yourself and the other person they drove out. I hope they either get rid of whoever is on top or that you find some other place worthy of you. Their behavior reminds me of the childish paranoid behavior I encountered when I worked at the studios. It took me 2 years to recover from that place. Thankfully, my next job was among social workers so I could heal. You deserve better co-workers and managers than they have at that place.

Happy birthday Cat!................................RE: Indian tech support. LisaG, it was 9am when she called. I don't think anywhere in the US it was evening! ________________________________ I didn't tell you all what happened at work. I got in trouble for "gossiping". Funny thing is the people involved named didn't even work together the day it happened! My boss is like "oh we should have checked this out".... darn right. I was told I had mentioned when they will fill our assitant manager position in the department. THis was the one vacated by the poor sould who was brow beaten into quitting and kicked out before her 2 week notice and told to NEVER come back. I stated my innocence but was asked who said this who said that. It was like I felt I was before the gestapo! Next time, I was told, I will be written up! In didn't even do this! That day was my parents anniversary and I spoke how excited I was because I had bought them a digital camera and how it would have been my ex's and mine anniversary! I feel like we are being spied on. What is interesting is that our former head just has this fear of this former employee. I was also told not to socialize with my friend who is a former employee because she is "screwed up". I be they would love to know she came to my wedding!

CONNIE - Thank you so much for the help with the cat constipation! I will go to that site! I tried the canned pumpkin last night mixed in her wet food. She ate well for about 2 minutes, and then gave it up. Tonight I will try mixing it in baby food. Oh here she comes. She knows I'm talking about her.....Oh dear, you sound just like me with the menopausal insomnia. The only things that have been helping me at all are the Chinese herbs. OH --- Something else, too -- Bach Flower remedies makes a sleep formula now. I got some free samples, and it worked. My mind slowly slowed down and off to sleep I went. Right now I'm taking a formula Dr. Christianne Northrup recommended in her book on menopause. It's Chai Hu Long Gu Mu Li Pian. It dispels heat (hot flashes) and calms rage and moods associated with menopause. I have been sleeping fine since I started taking it. It doesn't say it's specifically for insomnia, but it seems to be working ok. There was another one which the FDA took off the market (they don't like products THEY don't make money off of) -- Jin Bu Huan. Can't get it anymore but that tiny little pill put you in the best sleep you've had since infancy. And you woke up feeling better than new. If you have any acupuncturists in your area who have studied Chinese medicine, it would be good to go to them. That's how I found out about An Mien Pian and Suan Zao Ren many years ago. If I'm really upset, I'll take this formula and go to sleep. Good luck. You deserve a good nights' sleep.

CHRISTINE - She could have been. I saw a 60 Minutes segments a few years ago about customer help being outsourced to India. They DO actually teach them to speak to sound American. They even teach a southern accent. I haven't found an Indian person who was good at faking it yet, but you may have gotten one. I don't know how you could really tell these days anymore.
Diane
-
Christine...depending on where you live vs. where she lives, could be the time difference. I've noticed more and more I'm getting American people answering customer calls...and I couldn't be happier, because I can understand everything they say! I wonder if companies realize Americans are getting fed up with off-shore, unintelligible employees? I know I've complained a few times and have just hung up to call again until I get someone I can understand.
LisaG

Happy birthday Cat!I remember when my son was about 2 weeks old my mom took him for the night. How wonderful it was to just sleep...---------------------------- When you all mentioned outsourcing I thought of this phone call I got the other day. This woman iwth a Southern accent bordering on the extreme called about my husbands Discovery Magazine renewal. She was very very friendly asking how the weather was etc.... I told her to call back. So yesterday morning she called and spoke to my husband. As she hung up she said have a good evening. Makes me wonder if she was calling from India and had a fake southern accent.

Diane - Here's a site I had bookmarked on cat constipation -- http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?action=library&act=show&item=constipatedcats
Connie
-
Diane - Now I have a question for you (or anyone else who may have info to share). Do you have any recommendations on sleep help? I’ve pretty much always had problems with insomnia but it’s gotten worse since menopause. I’ve tried Melatonin, Lavender oil spray, even other-the-counter sleeping pills (I know you shouldn’t use them, but I was desperate) – all with limited success, depending on my body chemistry at the time. I’ve been adding magnesium to my diet but have to limit it because of the laxative effect. Last night I tried a new product that has valerian root, chamomile, passion flower, lemon balm and L-theanine in it. It did nothing, although the bottle says you can take more than I took, so I might give it another try. The reason I ask you is that I remember one time a long time ago you mentioned how your throat muscles are the last to relax when you fall asleep and that it helps to concentrate on that. That was helpful advice, and I just wondered if you had any other tips.
Connie
-
Diane - Yes, our vet advised pumpkin for the cat we used to have who had lots of trouble with constipation when he started getting older. We tried the canned pumpkin, but he didn't really like it too well. Hopefully Natasha won’t be as finicky. You could also try some Laxatone or something similar if you have any around. That might help get things moving. Our vet also recommended Flint River Ranch food since it has more fiber in it than the grocery store brand we had been feeding him. It’s more expensive but you use a lot less and it’s much better for them.
Connie

Happy Birthday, Cat!!
Connie
-
Diane; In DIL's case, the tech support people were Americans, living in the US. So when you dialed them up, you knew they were in Portland, Oregon! I hadn't thought of the outsourcing possibilities. Lisa, take care of yourself!
Janet
-
Has anyone here ever tried the pumpkin thing for when you're cat is having digestive trouble, i.e. constipation? I've heard other people tell me about it but I never paid too much attention. My vet is closed all week, and Natasha (who is 15) is having trouble. I bought some pureed pure pumpkin at Whole Foods to mix into her food tonight. Supposedly, cats actually like the pumpkin.
Diane
-
JANET - Oh, dear. On the other hand, that gives companies the ability to have technical help in India bypassing American technicians. I'm so p*ssed about outsourcing in this country. Oh well, I'm p*ssed about too many things these days.
Diane
-
LISA - a Kit? It's not from the Acme company who makes all those kits for Wile E Coyote, is it? :)
Diane
-
Diane - LOL...no, I'm not a "Reverend", I'm just ordained. When I get the kit, I'll know what states I can practice in and what steps I might have to go through in each. But that's kinda kewl, huh? :) And yeah, that tornado warning really scared me, cause we actually HAD one a couple of months ago...not only that, how reliable does that make the EBS system on cable? Not very, if they broadcast wrong information.
LisaG
-
Happy Birthday, Cat...early or late...hope it's a wonderful day!------------------I agree with the comments about sleep deprivation...not something to mess with...your body need sleep to regenerate/heal after the day's activities. I went through that when I was the PM for that external contract at Stanley...18 months of 3-4 hours of sleep a night did me in and I started to have muscle twitches during the day...like the ones you have when you're falling to sleep. Horrible! I thought I was getting Parkinson's or MS or something, but the neurologist was a smart cookie and after he found nothing physically wrong, his first question was could I be sleep deprived? Well, I started laughing and told him about the job and he said that was it...but I think this also brought out my RLS, which I never had severely before. Now I go in and out of 'remission' with the RLS...boughts of sleep deprivation bring it on, like last year's problems when I had such horrible neck/back pain, I couldn't sleep for more than 2-3 hours at a time for a month. I'm back on the meds and it helps a bunch. Soooooooo, what's my point? Do everything you can to ensure you get enough sleep each night, to avoid other illnesses.
LisaG
-
Diane: you "invite" the other person at another location to take over your computer (with codes) and then sit back and watch things happen on your screen! It's pretty wild. So with viruses or other stuff, a remote service call is often all you need. My DIL's law firm had several offices, and their tech support people did it all the time. Technology is amazing. ..... is it CAT's birthday? Hope you get a good nap!
Janet
-
JANET - I would hire Jeff if I ever needed him. That sounds like a great idea. I had no idea that could do "remote" set-up. Cool. CAT - I'm so glad you got a good nights' sleep! And I'll bet grandma just loved having her little grandbaby, Etain, with her all night. A good nights' sleep can really replenish all that energy and focus.
Diane
-
LISA - That is SO bizarre how they broke in and announced a tornado warning. Makes me wonder if it was supposed to be just a test but they accidently messed up and it broadcasted. Yeah, no wonder Americans are known for their ignorance of facts by other countries. 1922?? Oy.

Cat, how marvelous that must have felt. Did you have a c section this time, too? ........lisa, hope your kitty bite healed OK. I have since learned they can cause cellulitis. Mr. J had a terrible bout with it last spring after a root canal. His face swelled so terribly, it looked like he had a tennis ball in his cheek. He ended up in the hospital for a couple of days for IV antibiotics and morphine. It was as sick as I have ever seen him. We got little nips and scratches from our kitties over the years, and just washed them with soap and water, never thought much about them! ........well, Jeff did a search and found me "the" laptop. It will be an HP. When compared with what the local store had, this has many more features for less $. I should have it in 2 weeks. Then he will get online with me and do a remote setup. He and his buddies have bought software and can do remote repairs, are building up a clientele. He did it for me thru windows several times, and fixed some problems I was having, but he says this software is even more efficient. I hope he gets LOTS of clients cuz tuition is tres expensive......saw Spitfire Grill last night at our local summer rep. It's an endearing musical. Also, Picnic (well done) and Cash on Delivery (hilarious). Next week is A Member of the WEdding. I couldn't find the play but I did find the short story to familiarize myself with the story. It's been too long since I studied the play in college. .......just 2 more weeks (or any time now) for granddaughter to make her appearance. Her name will be Paige. I think that will fit well when she's any age. I cannot imagine what it's like to be a grammy, but I'm told it's more fun than being a mom. Most grandmas can sleep through the night most of the night. Sleep deprivation is one of the hardest things about being a parent to young kids. After a long night they're ready to party and you're ready to crash.

I was so sorry to hear about Joel Siegel. He was always so amusing in his film reviews!..........................................As to the July 4th history, that's just horrible and shocking. What the heck are they teaching people in school these days????? Oh, I forgt -- they're teaching them how to take a standardized test. *huge eyeroll* ........In my American Lit class, we teach a section that includes the letters that flowed between John and Abigail Adams. In one of them, John rhapsodizes that "this day, July 2nd, will live on in the minds of the people" (or something like that). It was actually signed by MOST signers on the 2nd, but the stragglers finished signing by the 4th. Poor man thought he was marking a moment in history, but he was two days off!

God Speed, Joel...------------------- Film critic Joel Siegel dies at 63------------------- June 30, 2007------------------- Reuters ------------------- Joel Siegel, the upbeat and often joyous film critic for ABC television's "Good Morning America" for 26 years, died on Friday at age 63 after a long battle against colon cancer, the network said. ------------------- Siegel, who was surrounded by family and friends when he died in New York, had stopped working just two weeks ago, and colleagues said he had maintained such a positive attitude that few people realized how sick he was, according to the network. ------------------- He had been a regular fixture on "Good Morning America" since joining the broadcast in 1981. He previously reviewed films for ABC affiliates and other networks. ------------------- His Friday movie reviews were a staple on "Good Morning America" and no matter how bad the film, it could not daunt Siegel's spirits. ------------------- He delivered his pans and plaudits in a terse but witty style. Reviewing one popular film last year, he said: "'The Pursuit of Happyness'" gets a C for spelling and an A for acting. It could also get an Oscar for Will Smith." ------------------- In a review of "Letters from Iwo Jima," he said the Japanese-language war drama was "the only contemporary film I've ever reviewed that I felt safe calling a masterpiece. It's not about the enemy, it's about humanity, and Clint Eastwood proves you don't have to understand the language to understand the heart." ------------------- Of Matthew McConaughey in "We Are Marshall," he said the performer's appeal "has long evaded me both as a pinup and as an actor. His constant ticks, bad hair and strained syntax as a coach fumble what should have been the tragic and inspirational story of the rebuilding of Marshall University's football team after a devastating plane crash." ------------------- "Joel was an important part of ABC News, and we will miss him," ABC News president David Westin said. "He was a brilliant reviewer and a great reporter. But much more, he was our dear friend and colleague. Our thoughts and prayers are with Joel's family." ------------------- Siegel was outspoken about his battle with cancer, reporting on his illness, writing a book about it and lobbying on Capitol Hill on behalf of others afflicted with cancer. ------------------- In 1991, Siegel and actor Gene Wilder founded Gilda's Club, named for Wilder's late wife, comedian Gilda Radner, a nonprofit organization offering emotional and social support for cancer patients and their families and friends.

Ok...even scarier...Jay Leno went to a local park in CA to quiz people about July 4th. Holy cow, are Americans embarrassingly ignorant about our own fight for independence! One woman said we fought for freedom from the Greeks! Another said we won independence in 1922! Then a whole family, father, mother and son knew nothing about it...didn't know what happened on July 4th (signing of the Declaration of Independence...actually it wasn't that exact day, but whatever)...they didn't know how many original colonies there were...they didn't know the name of our national anthem! The grandfather was pulled in front of the camera and knew EVERYthing. No wonder people in other countries think we're all idiots...we are!

Wow...that was scary! The cable company just broke into all the channel broadcasts to announce a tornado warning for Fairfield and New Haven counties until "1:15pm"! I'm like, what? The weather is absolutely beautiful tonight (was all day!), not to mention it's way past 1:15pm! I called the cable company and told them this...it's a serious problem when the EBS broadcasts bad information...I told the girl who answered the phone that they need to investigate to determine what the heck happened and make sure it doesn't happen again.

CHRISTINE - LOL! Cats! You can't move a muscle or they'll want you to get up and feed them. And then they are sleeping soundly when you have to get ready for work wishing you could just go back to bed. But no, there they are, sleeping away while you go out and make money so you could buy that food and put a roof over their heads. :)

I remember my son being wide awake and crying the first few nights he came home. I had my mother staying with me as I had a c-section. One night her and I couldn't take it anymore, woke up my then husband (he worked so I stayed up with the baby and my mom helped out), gave him Conor and took off to her house to sleep a few hours. ______________________ And my cat will here me cough at 5 am and start howling for food. As soon as he is done eating he goes to sleep and I am awake!

My cats do things like "the Crusher". They'll look out the window at night and wail at whatever is out there. Claudius would do it every night. Then I'd get up all tired and be leaving for work, and there he is SLEEPING SOUNDLY on my bed. Sometimes I would go over and go "booga booga" just to annoy him as revenge. :) He didn't get it. Just gave me a dirty look like I was nuts.

CAT - LOL! That's the benefit of being a baby, I guess. One baby kept my entire building awake last night. The poor baby must have been teething or something because this baby SCREAMED from about 3 am until my clock went off at 5 am. Two minutes before my clock went off, the baby quieted down. My whole building was late for work this morning. I'm so tired, I can't think. This baby wasn't even in our building --- it was the building next door. It seems they didn't even close their windows during the 2-hour scream fest.

Christine - I buy the CHOCOLATE Special K! ........................ Cat - I remember when Philip was an infant & asking an "experienced" Mom when will I get caught up on my sleep ... she just laughed! I also remember being able to survive on just 6 hrs of sleep. Can't do that now, I need at least 7. .............................. Still behind in tapes, but I just cannot stand this Marty & Miles story. He actually expected her to have sex in their "wedding night"?!?? What kind of movies was he watching all those years in hosp?? He better tune into the Lifetime Channel & see what happens when women are pushed too far!!

HI all - just checking in. Hot, hot, hot here. Rained a bit earlier, hope it cools things down some. Barely slept last night; Etain the Crusher was at work. Just some random thoughts - I just hate how stupid this new Marty is. The actress is OK, not thrilled with her. She projects too much weakness for my taste. Marty was on her way to being stronger than this. The guy playing Miles is really good, IMO, but of course the character is dreadful. You need a good villain, though. The story line is just preposterous, though, with the facts they assembled. It's hard to imagine John being threatened by Miles, and why would Marty sacrifice to protect John?

Anita: we switched over to kayaks many years ago as it is easier to take the trip with kids, small ones with the parents, older ones in either tandums or alone. I find them less wearing on the back also. Although I must admit to my pure laziness, I brought a rubber raft and tied it to my son's kayak and floated the entire trip! We do this trip every year, approx 40 of us, and I bet there will be more parents in rafts next year! :)

The dogs do pick their owners! ............................... Anita - that camping trip sounds like a blast! How old are your gilrs again? I have a 9 yr old son, but he says he doesn't want to go camping. He claims to be a "city" boy! One of these days we'll get him out there! .................................. kmp - I just love that story! Good thing that little girl didn't have a camcorder when that Middle Wife showed up!!

Hey everybody! Thanks for the freshness info ... I've just never purchased milk past the date ... I'm trying to do the Special K thing, and I didn't bring milk since it's in the machine, but there was only chocolate milk ... now I think Special K tastes kinda funny anyway, so I don't know if it was the milk or the cereal! My stomach was OK, but I must admit that I did have a bit of "looseness" in the afternoon. Today I stopped at the gas station and bought my own milk chug! A guy who works for us owns the machine. I don't know how or why, but he does! So it's not like a machine w/ fresh sandwiches that gets changed every day. He has burritos, bfast sandwiches, juice, power drinks, choc milk ... stuff like that.

Sounds like lots of fun on the rivers this summer! I have never been on a kayak. We did some rafting (with guides) and that was great fun, when the kids (and we) were younger. Cat, the children are beautiful. Lovely picture. Looks like they are both flourishing.
Janet

Anita, the Shenendoah near Bentonville VA is a good river for kayaks and kids, it is quite shallow and there are long stretches with few rapids. One kid did manage to roll and lose his glasses and paddle, but he was working it. There are several outfitters that will drop you off up river and then you paddle back to the campground.

Someone shared this with me & having given birth to 3 kids, I thought it was funny. The "Middle Wife" by an Anonymous 2nd grade teacher I've been teaching now for about fifteen years. I have two kids myself, but the best birth story I know is the one I saw in my own second-grade classroom a few years back. When I was a kid, I loved show -and-tell. So, I always have a few sessions with my students. It helps them get over shyness and usually, show-and-tell is pretty tame. Kids bring in pet turtles, model airplanes, pictures of fish they catch, stuff like that. And I never, ever place any boundaries or limitations on them. If they want to lug it in to school and talk about it, they're welcome. Well, one day this little girl, Erica, a very bright, very outgoing kid, takes her turn and waddles up to the front of the class with a pillow stuffed under her sweater. She holds up a snapshot of an infant. "This is Luke, my baby brother, and I'm going to tell you about his birthday." "First, Mom and Dad made him as a symbol of their love, and then Dad put a seed in my Mom's stomach, and Luke grew in there. He ate for nine months through an umbrella cord." She's standing there with her hands on the pillow, and I'm trying not to laugh and wishing I had my camcorder with me. The kids are watching her in amazement. "Then, about two Saturdays ago, my Mom starts saying and going , 'Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh! ' Erica puts a hand behind her back and groans. "She walked around the house for, like an hour, 'Oh, oh, oh!' Now this kid is doing a hysterical duck walk and groaning. "My Dad called the middle wife. She delivers babies, but she doesn't have a sign on the car like the Domino's man. They got my Mom to lie down in bed like this." Then Erica lies down with her back against the wall. "And then, pop! My Mom had this bag of water she kept in there in case he got thirsty, and it just blew up and spilled all over the bed, like psshhheew!" This kid has her legs spread with her little hands miming water flowing away. It was too much! "Then the middle wife starts saying 'push, push,' and 'breathe, breathe.' They started counting, but never even got past ten. Then, all of a sudden, out comes my brother. He was covered in yucky stuff that they all said it was from Mom's play-center, so there must be a lot of toys inside there. Then Erica stood up, took a big theatrical bow and returned to her seat. I'm sure I applauded the loudest. Ever since then, when it's show-and-tell day, I bring my camcorder, just in case another "Middle Wife" comes along. Live every day as if it is your LAST chance to make someone happy!

Puck sorry to hear that the golden didn't work out..but yeah for you for going through a rescue to find a new dog. I'm sure the right one is out there somewhere!
Anita

cw, we were there 5 nights... 6 full days of camping activity...we extened 2 nights longer.. my friend and I with the kids after the dads went home. 2 days wouldn't have been enough for all we did....I'll tell you, Kayaking on the Potomac River is a lot different the putting around on our friends quiet little lake....the river is 7 1/2 miles across at that point...and it gets a little bit of a chop..not much thankfully the day we kayaked but it's not a small placid lake! it was a good workout that's for sure. I like kayaking with kids better then a canoe..... too worried about the kids tipping the canoe...better center of gravity for us in a kayak! :) hmm, we're not far from the Shenandoah though..that would be fun!
Anita

Too bad Puck, but I guess just like we choose, she chose too. Main thing is she has a good home, and you will still find your dog!
Christine

Puck, sorry the Golden didn't work out, your next puppy is out there somewhere. Thanks for posting the spoilers. Anita, sounds like fun, but two days was enough? I went canoeing (14 miles) on the Shenendoah with an 11 year old in the bow and we kept up with the teenagers! I am proud of us. I also like the musical, it did everything a soap is supposed to do. It was different, it wasn't horrible music, it advanced the storyline and it was about interpersonal relationships. What was not to like? :)

what little I saw of the high school Prom Musical was cute...I didn't mind it. We missed a big chunk while on vacation. We were 'camping' at a State Park...in a cabin not a tent but we had no phones, tv, internet, dishwasher...but we did have a kitchen, bath and a/c :) :) :) We were on the Potomac River, I went on the Father's Day Kayak trip with Katie and her friends and dads...Gary was sick :( feeling better but not up to the kayak trip (bronchitis) . . . . . . I had a lot of fun and we hunted for sharks teeth on Fossil Beach.....we were with 2 other families...all in our own cabin till the last 2 days....after everyone else left she and I and our 4 kids doubled up in our cabin (2 bedrooms)....like a giant sleepover for 2 nights..the girls all had a blast!!!! we swam, we hiked, we dug in the sand....fun, fun, fun.....
Anita

exactly as Cristian said to Blair..let Starr and Cole be together and they'll break up soon enough (and if not then it may be true love and who can deny that?) :) I can understand Marty's view on not wanting her son involved with the daughter of the man that raped her....but hey, that's between the parents, not the kids...
Anita

the sell by day on dairy is that..the sell by date, not the use by date.....generally it's good for 7 days beyond that, which would have been yesterday...so if it's not sour (believe me if milk is bad you can tell, unlike other foods) I think you're okay if you drank it.
Anita
-
Nigh Owl - Ew! I would definetly NOT drink it. For most items that are dated, it's more of a freshness/taste thing (ie - crackers, cereal), but for something that can spoil, like milk, it's more of a health/spoilage issue...I wouldn't drink it if I were you!
LisaG

Freshness Question for y'all ... I just bought a "milk chug" from the machine here at work ... says sell by Jun 17. Am I drinking bad milk?

Does Cole really think that Starr doesn't like him? Her Dad tried to kill him, does he really think that Starr means what she says?? ........................ On another note, I still can't understand why both sets of parents can't see how stupid it is to forbid their kids to be together. Heck, by now they may have gotten tired of each other and broken up anyway!
Night Owl

I like Langston, too! I don't mind them softening Starr a bit, because she was really turning into a diva-beetch for a while there! But yeah, she's gone a bit too soft. Let's see some of that fire when Todd comes home and sees them together!
Puck

I like Starr's friend Langston. Sometimes I feel like they gave her Starr's personality! Starr used to be so much fun. I can't stand to see her whine over Cole. He's so not worth it. Merf~ I agree that it's a waste to make Tate and his Dad involved with the arsons. You'd think the show would be happy to have two handsome guys who can act and would want to keep them around.

Hi all - I have a general question about guitars. I want to start learning to play a guitar again (I took lessons on a borrowed guitar many years ago) and I don't know it the Esteban method/guitar is worth the money or if I should try to buy a guitar separately. One on one lessons around where I live are just too expensive, so I want a self-teach class, but I also want a decent guitar, but I'm clueless as to what to look for. Anyone have any suggestions? Anyone ever use the Esteban package or know someone that had success with it? THANKS!!! :)

noon CDT 6/24 Gee, I enjoyed the prom sequences - good music, dancing, choreography. Love watchin' Kathy/Marcy strut her stuff and boyoboy, can she sing! Thought the kids are talented. Ah well, different strokes...Tate's dad as arsonist highly unsatisfying - more months of tripe.

Watch "high School Chemistry", though! Kathy Brier sings that to make Langston talk/dance with Markko. As you're FFing, if you see her with a half dozen hunky men while she sings and dances, you've arrived!

I'm about to start watching this week's shows. I plan on fast forwarding through the musical. It looks awful. I guess this is the writers hitting rock bottom, huh? They've written all the terrible dialogue they can think of, so now they're going to make people sing the bad dialogue instead. Next week: One Life to Live goes claymation! Or how about One Life to Live acted out by finger puppets? Then they wouldn't have to pay the actors any more. That's one way to cut the budget.

OH MY GOD....I am going to KILL my sister!!! I just spent 2 hours trying to balance my checking account balance which was off by $80...turns out she never cashed a check I wrote her at Christmas back in December of last year! ARGH!!!---------I know sometimes I can be overly orderly, but I've discovered that my sister is probably the most disorganized person I've ever known. I found this out while we were on vacation where we had a few scares when she suddenly couldn't find her license or her credit card or her passport or her plane ticket, etc. She has the most overstuffed wallet full of, well, crap...old receipts, business cards, stuff she'll never need or use, but she also puts important stuff in there, so no wonder she can't find anything!---------Like me, she also brought a travel organizer, but it never seemed to contain all the travel stuff she used/needed. I also had a travel organizer, but at least I ALWAYS put ALL my travel docs, tickets, etc in the ONE organizer...never lost a thing. Her disorganized Italian side is overpowering the organized German side of her! ;) My mind reels when I think about when she gets old and her memory starts to go, but I hesitate to say anything to her or make suggestions...she has all the right tools (ie - organizers), but won't USE them. oy!

Yeah, Kathy was the only true pro in the group, and I was hooting over the High School Chemistry number! But yeah, I FF'd through most of the songs yesterday. ......................................................................How much do I love Sonny's new lawyer?!?!?!? She's such an interesting actress! She's in a scene with Spinelli and Sonny, where they are explaining that Jason is the father of Liz's baby, and she finds herself using Spinelli's cant in her crisp, educated tones, and stops herself, horrified. "Do you mean to say that Jason is the father of The Innocent One? -- (pause, gasp) I mean, the child?" I wish they could use her more. And how funny that they've resurrected her Breyer's commercial from several years ago. She's drop dead sexy, too! Hmm....who can she be paired with?!??!?! Drat, I don't think there are many men of her age on the show, except Luke or Mike. Too bad they killed off Carly's Dad....

I agree that Britney's voice is way better than Starr's. Even Langston's was not bad. Though none of them were all that good. Kathy Brier stole the show with High School Chemistry, hands down! That girl CAN sing! I didn't enjoy the musical as much as I thought I would. I FF'd some of the boring songs, like the cheerleader one and some of Starr's songs. I did like when Blair sang to Starr, that was sweet.

I must have missed the kiss. But yeah, an OPP/KKK person, even if trying to live a respectable life, wouldn't "contaminate" himself by such intimacy with an "unclean" person. .................................... and with all due respect to Marcy McBain, who has to read what's written for her, Brittney has a much better voice than Starr, by miles. Sorry Starr, cuz I love ya!

That would be so evil of him to lure Adriana/Laila that way. And, sorry, but unrealistic. I've lived in the South for over two decades, and I can tell you that true racists (the kind who would join a group, and commit arsons!) can't do more than social niceties in the presence of the kinds of people they hate. Most can't even do that much, and so they surround themselves only with "the right sort of people". There's no way a member of the KKK (or the OPP in this case) could sustain a fake romance with an "unclean" person. If for no other reason than that the whole idea of "purity" is nearly like a religion, and any deviation from "purity" would be considered damaging to their souls. Nuh-uh -- ain't gonna happen. I can't buy it.
Puck
-
Connie - yes, that's got to be it, but really...it's pretty sick. If he's a violent racist, you'd think it would be really hard for him to be close to her.
Kathleen
-
I've read speculation that Tate is using his working for Adriana and Layla, and now his dating Adriana, as a cover.
Connie
-
I don't get the Adriana thing either. I mean, he KNOWS Carlotta is her aunt, and I'm ASSUMING he knows Tonio is her brother, and of course he knows Dorian is her mother -- does he think that somehow Adriana's father is white, and Tonio is half-white or something? I don't get it.....
Puck
-
Cat - your children are beautiful! I love that picture :)
Kathleen
-
Night Owl - I'm a little confused on the arsonist story too. If Tate is OPP, then why is he trying to be with Adriana? Or is he using her as a cover? Pretty scary, since he tried to kill her brother! And what about this prom musical? Most of it was pretty cheesey, though there were a few cute moments. I like Markko and Langston!
Kathleen
-
NIGHT OWL - It sure is! It's retro until like July 13, I believe. I feel like hiding in the closet with a blanket over my head. I saw the TK pacifier clip, and yeah, it looks like that noonie was headed straight for his mouth! That's why they cut the camera over to Matheson really quickly.
Diane
-
Hey ... Does anybody know if Mercury is in retrograde this week???
Night Owl
-
Can we talk about the arsonist?? I don't really get it. They seemed to kinda mess up that storyline. At least Rex gets to say "I told you so"! ........................... I thought Nicholas died?? Guess I need to read the entire articles in SOD. Kinda surprised that he signed, but I'm glad that he is staying. ..................... The reveal of Jerry Jax was genius, but is he still tormenting Nick & Robin? Is he going to get away with the whole Metro Court thing? Is that #3 guy still in town?? I haven't seen much of GH lately! LOL!!
Night Owl

"AMC recalls Hayley/Mateo romance, begun on the shore of Pine Valley Lake" ... Oh, no, it didn't! Their romance began at the OCEAN! You all have visited PA's coastline, haven't you??

Or if they have a water bottle handy, they could rinse it off that way, too, since so many people carry those these days. but I suppose parents of babies are already carrying so much stuff.

Tuesday, 5:45 PM PDT - Home sweet home! Boy! Had dentist appointment this afternoon and they didn't allow enough time so I have to go back in the morning. Am I ticked! No problems, just a thorough cleaning as I hadn't been in for a bit and doctor was busy with another patient to check on me. Rats! . . . . . I did catch "Zach" and the pacifier. Baby dropped, Zach picked it up, wiped in on the inside of his jacket, and I think he blew on it. You know - to get the germs off. LOL . . . . I have seen people do that - both moms and dads. Yes, spit is the universal cleaner I do believe between moms and their young children. :)

Sad to see Randolph Mantooth go so soon. He's another one who's kept himself in great shape for his age! Anyone remember when he played a cop friend of Bo's when they did a remote in the streets of NY? (RSW & RM are real-life friends, so it's fun to see them interact, both when he played a good guy and now a bad guy.)

EWWWW!!! (pacifier comments) I'm sooooo glad I never had to learn that particular skill! But how funny that TK was on automatic parent-pilot!

So when a parent cleans off a pacifier, they actually stick that whole nipple in their mouth and pop it back out?
Diane

NIGHT OWL - I guess when people have kids, a lot of 'spit' is shared, huh? EW. :) I remember my mother wetting a tissue with her own spit and cleaning off a spot on our faces when we were out. Grosses me out now but it didn't then.

C'mon Diane, you can't just pick it up off the floor & put back into a baby's mouth! LOL!! If you don't have sudsy water handy ... ya gotta improvise!

CAT - What's this? Parents clean off their baby's pacifiers with their own mouths??
Diane
-
He's a great big brother. They do look alike, don't they? Anyone catch TK's move yesterday with the baby? He dropped the pacifier and TK picked it up, wiped it on his coat and then moved to put it in his mouth to "clean" it off! The practiced move of an experienced dad. :) You can see it in some of the other scenes with Spike.

I don't know what they saw in GL this past year; I've been a devoted follower for 15 years but this year, I've actually been able to FF thru most of the shows without remorse. Have to say that these days, my favorite is AMC, then OLTL, then GL (the three that I follow)

Oh, Cat, they are beautiful! Thank you for sharing!!

Tuesday, 4:35 AM PDT - Cat: What a beautiful picture. I predict that Max is going to be the "bestest" big brother that anyone has ever seen. Etain is one lucky little sister.

Diane

Oh!! That's a great picture, CAT! LOL! I love that little outfit she's got on! And look at them -- they are looking at the camera in the same exact way. She's so tiny compared to Max. But, boy, she looks like she's going to match him wit-for-wit one day soon.

That was a struggle. The photo was huge and I had such a time resizing it.

Oh, please more baby pics!! ..... I can't stand that Ric Lansing on GH!! When is somebody gonna take him down??? Guess that makes the guy a good actor! So glad that Genie won!! I gotta admit tho, it seems kinda unfair to put 1 month of work against a whole year! Was there a tie for best drama??
Night Owl

Cat, that makes me smile too.... can't wait to see more pictures!_____________________ Regarding the Emmy's, the bits I saw, I did notice very few ABCer's winning. Very glad for Genie though!

I'm glad I took that photo when I did, because her skin looks so clear, even if she's a bit jaundiced. That's gone, but here skin isn't quite to clear now. I'll see what photos I have to post

CAT - Oh, that's so cool that Max calls Etain a "super baby"! LOL! That makes me smile really big. :) She sounds like a very bright baby. Feel free to post up any new pictures of her and/or her and Max together. She's so beautiful. I know we'd all love to see more.
Diane

She's fabulous, and Max is over the moon. He thinks she's a "super baby", because she's so alert and responsive.
Cat

Thanks, Cat! I didn't think that letting the beans sit overnight would make that much difference. I could understand if I were to grind up the whole bag & let that sit, but hey, I do pay extra to do that at the supermarket now, don't I? Of course my coffee sits in genuine Tupperware, but still ... I never thought about that much ... Oh, well, if DH doesn't complain, what's the harm??? ................ HOWS THAT BABY???? And how does Max like being an older brother?????
Night Owl

Night Owl - Only if you are a true coffee connaisseuse. I buy Starbucks, but at a discount store that sells stuff that hasn't sold at the supermarket. It is after the expiration date, but with coffee, it doesn't really matter. The only time it really matters is if the coffee is freshly roasted. Then, it's really fresh. You need to be near the source of the beans and roaster, though. Like in Hawaii. ;)
Cat
-
Any Coffee Connoisseurs out there?? We used to have a "grind'n'brew" coffee pot with a timer. You fill the water & beans, set the timer, and the pot grinds the beans & makes the coffee. It broke. Now we have a grinder, and a coffee pot. Now, I don't drink coffee, but I clean the kitchen, so I grind the beans! I grind the beans at night & get the coffee ready so that I have one less thing to do in the morning. My Mom says, "What's the point of buying the beans if you're going to grind it the night before?" Does it really lose THAT much flavor??

Anyone catch the daytime emmys last night? I saw only bits and pieces of it.

If I were you, I'd go online and type one of the models you want to see where you can get the best price. I would also highly recommend B&H photo and video...that's where I got my digital camera and supplies at an excellent price. My friend who does professional photography on the side uses them exclusively...they also sell computers.

Janet - here's some best picks from Consumer Reports...-------------- Quick Picks - LAPTOPS-------------- For features and long battery life: Apple Macbook Pro 15-inch $2,000 - Lightweight but full-featured, this laptop had the longest battery life of all tested 15.4-inch models. The display is very bright with a wide viewing angle. It ran warmer than the others under full load. Tech support for Apple laptops is superior; reliability is undistinguished.-------------- Smart pick for on-the-go computing: Lenovo ThinkPad T60 $1,200 - Among the lightest laptops, the Lenovo offers a 15.4-inch screen, larger than you'd get with a slim-and-light computer, but without sacrificing battery life. It has some extras, such as a fingerprint reader and built-in docking port, but no memory-card reader or FireWire port. You'll need to add your own. Its speakers are not well-suited for multimedia use. Tech support for Lenovo laptops is superior; reliability is undistinguished.-------------- Best values: Toshiba Satellite A135-S4427 $750 - Among the lightest Windows laptops, this one has very good ergonomics and average battery life. Toshiba’s reliability and tech support are undistinguished.-------------- Best desktop replacements: Apple Macbook Pro 17-inch, $2,800 or Toshiba Satellite P205-S6287, $1,290 - The lightest 17-inch model tested, the Apple offers great speed, design, and features. Though pricey, it has the best display we've seen in a laptop, fine speakers, and longer battery life than any model in the Ratings. Tech support for Apple laptops is superior; reliability is undistinguished. Well-priced, with a strong feature set, the Toshiba is suitable for most users. It had a dedicated numeric keypad and ran cooler than most other models tested. Its Harman/Kardon speakers bested those on nearly all the others. Toshiba's reliability and tech support are undistinguished.-------------- Quick Picks - DESKTOPS---------------Best value: Dell Dimension E521 $655, CR Best Buy - This offers a lot for the money, including a comfortable keyboard and an optical mouse. It’s also quiet. Dell’s technical support and reliability have been undistinguished, according to our surveys.-------------- For reliability and support: Apple iMac 20-inch $1,500 - An all-in-one desktop that includes an LCD screen, this had excellent speed and is packed with features despite its small footprint. Its ergonomics were very good, except for the mouse, which was uncomfortable. Apple’s desktops have proven reliable, and the brand’s tech support is superior.

Janet -- no office Depot? I picked up a Toshiba Satellite (model L35-S2316) for $399 after rebates (I paid $549 in the store). I love it! It's wireless! It does have Vista, though, and let me tell you, Vista is a PIG! P-I-G PIG! I'm ordering more RAM on eBay...................... Anyway, it's 1.8ghz processor, 512mb RAM, 30 GB hard drive, and the usual blah blah blah. The sale started the Sunday I bought it (just this last weekend -- the tenth of June?), so it might still be on!

Help! Old laptop died and isn't worth repairing. WHAT do you guys recommend? I need middle of the price-range model. We have a Best Buy, Staples, Sam's and WalMart where I can look. I am going to a writers' workshop next week so this is a bad time for the old laptop to die.

I just saw the funniest commercial! It was for "Live at the Emmys" on SoapNet tonight -- you know, where people talk about the fashions and such. It was Chandra Wilson (Bailey from Grey's Anatomy) and Ty Treadway. Chandra said, "I'm so happy to be hosting with Ty McTreadway." I 'bout fell over!

Puck - You're right about the Native American family classifications. My husband worked with a Native American in New Mexico who was always taking bereavement time off because a grandmother or grandfather had died. After the third grandmother, we started wondering what was going on until he explained it to him. Convenient, huh? lol And thanks to you and cw for explaining the second cousin, etc. thing because I never understood that.
Connie
-
The "removes" come from those who are not of the same generation. So the children of siblings are first cousins to each other. THe children of first cousins are second cousins to each other. The first cousin, when referring to the child of a first cousin, refers to that person as "first cousin, once removed". The second cousin's child, to that same first cousin, is "first cousin twice removed". The "removes" go in either direction, so that the second cousin, in referring to his second cousin's parent, says "second cousin once removed" -- which is also the same designation for the relationship to second cousin's child. The only exception, of course, is the first cousin, referring to the first cousin's parents, who are, of course, uncle and aunt -- not "first cousin once removed". It's so much easier in many Native American societies! Anyone older than you, who is of your parents' generation, is an uncle or aunt, and anyone older than that is a grandmother or grandfather!
Puck

I would be cool to see Dan and Nathan, they were Kevin and Joey at different times and haven't acted together. I hope Dorian has some scenes with Joey too.

I am sorry that Phil Carey is leaving OLTL, but hey, does anyone really die in Llanview?? I sure hope everybody returns for the funeral!! I remember his last funeral when he faked his death, it was really good & hard to believe that he wasn't dead in real life! Remember all the wives were there, and they all remembered their weddings, even Blair, she had a flashback as "Asian Blair". I have never seen that before, using the orig actor's scene for a flashback. Last I heard Asa was the most-married man in Daytime. Does he still hold the record? I love Nigel's album of all the weddings! Sure hope Nigel stays on in Llanview. What ever happened to him & Roxy? Don't they still own the motel in Angel Square?

OMG, that would be so cool if they do return! That would be sending him off in style, as he ought to go. I hate that they're killing him off, but then I can't think of anyone but Phil Carey playing him, and he's done with the role when they wanted him to be recurring.
Puck

Ooooooooh! Don't know if this is true, but I saw this on Mediadomain: James DePaiva, John Loprieno, Dan Gauthier, Tonja Walker, & Nathan Fillion will be returning for Asa's funeral. Did anyone else hear about this?

Thanks for the "relations" info, cw!! Now, how about the children of 2 first cousins? What are they to each other? Second cousins? ..... Sounds like a great trip you have planned, Jennifer! I was at the San Diego Zoo many years ago. Nice place, different from the midwest as they don't need indoor enclosures for the winter.

From TVGuide.com: Oh No! One Life to Live Cowboy Will Die Off Screen Philip Carey courtesy ABCDebbie Downer alert! As reported in TV Guide's June 18 issue, One Life to Live has decided to kill off Phil Carey's beloved character, Asa Buchanan. The much-married, conniving cowboy will bite the dust off camera in August. Sigh. Carey made his debut on OLTL in 1979. His Asa was established as the ornery patriarch of the billionaire Buchanan clan, who relocated from Texas to romance the ladies of Llanview, Pennsylvania. Back in the late '70s and early '80s, the daytime soaps loved to copycat the hit primetime sudsers, so viewers saw lots of characters inspired by the success of Dallas. Hence, the Buchanans of OLTL. Another World even launched a short-lived spinoff soap, Texas, which aired from 1980-82. But I digress... As I reported right here, Carey's contract expired in April '07 and he refused to go on recurring status. For the record, his last airdate was Thursday, April 26. It's just a pity Carey will have no on-screen farewell — especially since the soap veteran wowed us all by returning to OLTL last fall, after he had survived lung cancer. I do understand that there are egos and economics at odds here, but it seems like Carey and his fans deserve a better resolution for Asa's Life than an off-screen demise. It's hard for me imagine our blustery Asa just going quietly into that good night.

TGIF - 4:54 AM PDT - Morning: Merfuf - how strange - I too had a dream about Thorsten night before last. I tried SO hard to remember it and couldn't. Just remember him smiling and laughing and that huge grin of his. Weird that AMC had a dream "sequence" on yesterday's show....... It is OFFICIAL - I head for San Diego on July 1 with Rick and the kids (niece-in-law going down earlier to visit with some friends). I have a plane ticket and everything!!! Sort of dreading not having my quiet time at home, but think this will be good as I will be away from EVERYTHING - including almost-ex-bosslet. Will have the Saturday before I leave and then Sunday and Monday when I return - but no ones knows that. :) Days are already being planned out, but hope I get a minute or two to myself. Tickets obtained for SeaWorld, San Diego Zoo (which I have ALWAYS wanted to see), Legoland (?), baby shower for other niece-in-law, and youngest nephew's birthday. That should about do it! And thank you LisaG for the Tidal Pool info. I would really enjoy that - anything near the water! . . . . . . Things very busy at work. Hasn't been much of a let-up and I'm still "recovering" from fellow admin being out a week. I've been assigned to a task force to train new managers, and volunteered to create the PowerPoint presentation. It turned out quite well if I do say so myself and might open a door for me to work with our new graphics person. Not much in the way of graphics created at the Seattle office - all done in Southern California office. Of course, all I need is something else to do. ;) . . . . Best get myself in gear. Going to be a very long day as partners and managers have been traveling a great deal and today is time and expense day so lots to do.

NIGHT OWL - That's a good point that that guy got to live at least two more years with that new liver. There was no way to detect microscopic cancer in it so I don't know why he was so full of blame. Yes, what a bizarre dream, MERF! Reminds me of my cousin's recent dream of being in a circus where two acrobats tried to beat her up. I dreamed I breastfed a cat. Hmmm...
Diane
-
3:28 pm CDT: Merfuff, I never have such entertaining dreams! No Thorsten, no hippos for me!! Do you raise Charolais cattle? And just how is it he was at your home for BREAKFAST? what happened on the way from NY to Wisconsin, hmmm ...??? Diane, I never knew that about breast cancer returning 35 yrs later. How scary! So this guy is suing after getting 2 more yrs to live? Wonder if you have to sign a statement saying you know your new organ could be tainted. Heck, not all transplants work out anyway!!
Night Owl
-
NIGHT OWL - I've read they basically have that rule for breast cancer because it doesn't have the typical 5-year benchmark as the other cancers do as it can recur at anytime as long as 35 years later. I'm guessing that's why. I think with other cancers, they just have a 5-year wait. Of course, anyone getting an organ can't be assured it is filled with healthy cells. One guy tried suing because he received a donated liver and then 2 years later was dying of metasized liver cancer. Apparently, there were microscopic cancer cells in the liver when it was donated, they surmised since it was liver cancer cells that had spread all over.

12.30P CDT Th 6/14 Early this morning, I dreamt I was visiting with Thorsten - 1st in NYC, then on our ranch. He asked for a steak and an egg, and so I cooked them (weenie li'l steak - no way a Charolais steak!). All of a suddy we were in a field planted in rows of green something - periodically spaced with cartons of eggs. Guess he didnae count on the sun cookin' the field eggs altho it's hot enuf here lately to imagine it ;) I prefer that dream to the...next was a rotten dream in which a hippo, a squirrel and a chipmunk followed me into the hardware store in Rubber Balls. The hippo got owly and I got frantic - there was nowhere for me to lead them outa folk's way...I musta been hungry overnight....The Martin Family dream dance sequence was great - neato to see Dr. Joe all togged out and MEK singin' and dancin'!

I didn't realize that the prom musical was going to be 'real life'. So I guess we'll never actually see the show they're rehearsing then? Should be interesting....kind of cheesy but probably fun for the younger summer viewing crowd.
Kathleen

Puck - definitely true that Jessica doesn't need insurance...even though she surely has it through poor Antonio. Besides, cops usually have good benefits (even if he doesn't have them through his business). They did recently make a point of Cristian not having insurance, though they didn't explore it much.
Kathleen
-
Jessica has a wealthy husband (who, poor sap!, probably signed the "I will be responsible for payment" form the hospital makes you sign), wealthy parents, and a wealthy grandfather. Insurance isn't even necessary!!!.............................................................BUT, that said, GH has been doing good things with that very issue. When Lucky was shot, they made a huge deal out of the fact that he had no insurance, and had huge bills. Nik offered to pay but he declined. Then later, when he was fired from the PD, he hurt his back again and was not on insurance then, so his bills became even larger. At that point, Jason paid his bills anonymously. But at least they have thrown a bone to the fact that working people can't afford health care bills for all these amnesias, comas, getting shot ats, and such.
Puck

Does anyone on the soaps who is unemployed ever have a problem with health insurance? Or living in a huge house or apartment? lol!
Christine
-
Insurance? Does Jessica even have a JOB?? Oh, I guess Antonio buys health insurance as a business owner. Thanks for that link, Anita! I'll have to check that out. Since my cancer was caused by a drug given to my Mom while pregnant w/me, and it causes a specific cancer, I'm hoping that I could still be a donor. Geesh, I have the sticker on my DL!!
Night Owl
-
Anita, it sounds like the risk is just too great, even if other organs are presumably healthy. Wise policy. I'd think Viki would not be a potential donor because of her DID or whatever the diagnosis is. The stress might bring on an episode of personality disassociation. I've been amazed at how healthy soap folks look in the hospital. Hair, nails, makeup, one day after months in a coma. Usually, if you can walk a few steps and there's somebody at home to help out, you're released ASAP! These guys must have incredible insurance.

http://www.cancer.org/docroot/ETO/content/ETO_1_4x_Donation_by_Cancer_Survivors.asp?sitearea=ETO the reason a cancer survivor can't donate is because of the small risk of passing cancer on the recipient... I did a google search organ donors cancer survivor
Anita

They're not tainted, but there are several problems. One is that cancer recurs quite often, and you may not be able to fight it in a weakened state. The other is that since cancer is a disease of cell damage, anything that causes cell damage can make one more prone to certain cancers. For example, people who get bone cancer often get it at the location where there's been a previous bone or tissue injury. (That last one nearly devastated Sweetie -- when Riki had bone cancer at the end of her life, it was a shoulder, where she fell once when DH accidentally tripped her (but also the site of a surgery I wanted her to have, to remove a lump)...we both felt guilt.....)......................................................Al in all, it's probably for the best that cancer survivors not donate, since it can be detrimental to their own health.
Puck
-
Kathleen, you are so right about being fine once they are home ... plus everybody stays in hosp for so long! No one gets transferred to sub-acute nursing home/rehab, no one has all those hosp visits & rehab & all that crap. DH had a heart valve replacement & once he was home we were at the hosp almost every day for some type of follow up!
Night Owl
-
If you have breast cancer, or any cancer, are the rest of your organs "tainted"? I had cervical cancer, I can't give my son a kidney if he were to need it??
Night Owl
-
And we have a new set of twins! My first cousin's daughter had twins. So what does that make us?? I don't know how that works. But heres more of the story ... One day my Mom is at cousin's home & there is a woman there w/ a baby, they are leaving. Cousin isn't home, but her DH is, he says, "That's our grandson" My Mom didn't say anything, she doesn't like to ask questions! So the other day my cousin calls her & tells her the whole story ... cousin's daughter, "J" is gay. She has a life partner (that woman) and they found a sperm donor online & her partner had a baby boy. Now that little boy is 2 yr old or so, and "J" wanted to have a baby, so they used the same donor, and she had boy/girl twins! I think it is wonderful. Once upon a time it might have bothered my Mom, but she is OK with it. However, the wife of "J"'s brother is a "strict" Catholic and she DOES NOT approve of the whole thing! My cousin is worried that the wife is turning the brother against his own sister. I sure hope he will stand up to his wife. They have kids, and I just don't understand how any mother can be against another woman having children. How can you hold those babies & say what they are doing is wrong? The woman certainly have the finances for their choices. I hope I can see them all this summer!!
Night Owl
-
JANET - I think you're right about Vicki being disqualified as a donor (if this was real life) because of the breast cancer. I think sometimes some places will let you donate blood if its been over 20 years but I don't think they ever want your organ donations. Of course, they change the rules on these things all the time, I guess.
Diane

Congrats on the babies on the list ... we have 2 great nieces & 1 great nephew in the family now ... it is so wonderful!!

Hey everybody! I haven't had time to get up the SOD TIDBITS, but there's something in the most recent yall need to be alerted to. All AMC fans -- tomorrow, several character will be dreaming, and the dreams will be....interesting, to say the least..................full TIDBITS later in the day.
Puck
-
wouldn't Vicki's history of breast cancer also disqualify her as a donor? Even if she's past the five-year mark.. Maybe that wouldn't matter after a certain amount of time. ......... Cat, how are the kids doing? I'll bet that beutiful baby is changing every day. Just a month or so and I'll be a grandma to little Paige! I'll bet Max is old enough to be a good helper and a wonderful big bro. Best thoughts headed your way. . . . . merfuff, how are you getting along these days? . . . . and I wonder how Patty B and all the B's are doing . . . . . .
Janet
-
Yes, the musical is supposed to be "real life" -- that is, the kids go to prom, and break out in musical numbers that reflect their feelings. And yeah, it starts Friday, which means it probably starts, a little bit, on Thursday! And I hear Dorian plays "fairy godmother" to Starr, and gets her a dress.
Puck
-
Oh, and I heard that David will somehow save Jessica's life as well. What ELSE is gonna happen to her now???!!
Kathleen
-
And you know once Jessica goes home, her recovery will be complete. Have you ever noticed that nobody ever does any recovery at home? They're in the hospital, and once they're released they're hanging out in the coffee shop or diner with the rest of Llanview!
Kathleen
-
Night Owl - LOL on everyone watching the musical! I think it starts on Friday. Actually Viki was also a match for Jessica, but they wouldn't let her be the donor due to her having had a heart transplant herself.
Kathleen
-
So where is everybody today? Watching OLTL??? When will the Prom Musical be on??
Night Owl
-
10:21 AM CDT: So, it is a GOOD thing? What I don't understand is that with so many relatives, how does your soon-to-be-ex-husband end up being the only viable donor? Where is Alex Olanov when ya need her?? She could have weaseled her way into Asa's heart by saving the life of his precious Jessie!
Night Owl

At least they made her yellow w/jaundice! I know somebody (online) who's DH received a new liver like just last week or so. I was gonna ask her about the Jessica story, then they got the transplant, so I didn't want to bug her. But I think he's been dealing with this issue for over a year. The docs tried to slow things, I guess, but they always knew that he would end up needing a transplant.
Night Owl
-
Thanks so much, Connie! I never thought about checking the transcripts. I will probably FF thru a lot, but I kinda like to see my friends! LOL!! The puppy is a pistol! When we go for a walk she thinks that anyone who is outside is there to see her! Because, of course, she is so wonderful!! and she knows where all her "friends" live. I'm beginning to think she even knows their cars. Our older girlie is getting to be more accepting of her and they will have a bit of a frap now & then. Otherwise, Lucile will frap on her own!
Night Owl

Speaking of Jessica -- love how she was orange from a non-functioning liver (or was that kidneys??!?!?), then she was immediately glowing even before she woke up from surgery. No more orange-y!

Night Owl -- Here's a link for transcripts of the show -- http://www.tvmegasite.net/day/oltl/transcripts/main/2007transcripts.shtml If you want to take the time to check the first few minutes of each tape, you could probably figure out their order. That is, if you care. lol BTW, how's the new puppy?

I kinda liked Ryan & Annie's wedding. I liked how Jonathan thought Kendall was trying to ruin the wedding while we all knew it was Greenlee, and I liked that Greenlee didn't get to ruin the ceremony. Even tho she did kinda wreck the reception!

M 8/11 1:17 PM CDT I think I had also emailed Mike - good, now he really has the info...and I emailed our friend Starla....Another day, another gooey romance / wedding shot down by the writers (Annie / Ryan). Don't the writers get as sick of that sad, overused 'theme' as we do? Same-ol' thing as 'Jessica at death's door-gets dangerous surgery-is fine as frog hair'.

Mike hasn't been around since the GB is back. If anyone has his email address, perhaps they could let him know the username and password. I miss his posts. Or maybe he's just been busy and will stop in when he has time.
Connie
-
Anita, you are right... Marty did meet with a lawyer, and it was at the coffee shop. I agree with everyone that the story does nothing for Marty's intelligence. As a psychiatrist, she should know that her taped session with the other psychiatrist wouldn't hold up in court. And, Cat, I too thought her rape could have been a catalyst for protecting Blair from the same thing (IF she did really kill Spencer). But who cares who killed Spencer anymore!! lol Word is, the show plans to finally resolve that storyline, so hopefully Marty won't be married to Miles for long. Perhaps they're changing plans because of the new headwriter.
Connie
-
well, I thought it was a lawyer, I think they were at lunch? or at a restaurant when the spoke... I'm probably one of the few that was never a Marty fan...even back when..the recast is okay I guess, but the character still does nothing for me...dull. Gee, I wish Ace were still around...she always had something to say about dear Marty :) I do miss the old night crew...not that I could stay up and chat like that anymore....kids and stuff..but we sure had fun. :)
Anita
-
Any good defense lawyer would have a heyday with the evidence against Marty. It's all an SPD to set up a triangle with Johh. I hate it because it violates Marty's core character.
Cat
-
Cat, I may have missed somethng too. Last I saw, Marty talked to a pschyologist/pschyciatrist (however that's spelled!) who hypnotized her and Marty 'recoved lost' memory of murderin' Spencer. Dubious, at best. Fellow doc warned her it may be false or plante. IF there was a lawfyer consulted, I missed it too.
Merfuff
-
Marty is not the Marty of our beloved Patrick...... That Marty is with Patrick in Ireland raising their children, this one is an imposter! lol!
Christine
-
I must have missed the scene where Marty talked to a lawyer. She's still lost her mind, IMO. Not to mention allowing yourself to be treated like that, especially after having been raped. She defended herself against Miles's pretend thugs, why not against Mile? In the end, Miles will get his at the hands of John, but it's annoying in the meantime. And is Marty going to cheat on another husband, even one as creepy as Miles?
Cat
-
Sa 6/9 7:45 AM CDT: Thanks, all, for the Jack/Grenlee relationship. Now I remember...........Agreed, Miles/Marty storyline too much even for a soap - no wonder it irks professional attorneys (attornies?) as Cat is. I imagine if they did a dance storyline and botched it so much my grommet would be highly irked ;) LisaG, good luck with Scooter Vicious' lovebite! Well, PattyB, our Trent Dolly is a Dolphin. Damty nice for Thorsten ;)

Puck, right and the first wedding was in FL, the second in Llanview.
cw
-
And on a re-read, that doesn't make sense. That is, the golden balloon wedding was the second, because they recommitted after the sneaky first one (Lord heir one).
Puck
-
CW got it!...RE: the gifts....the golden balloon wedding was indeed their second, because they did a quickie secret wedding when Blair figured out he was the Lord heir, which I guess accounts for the first one having Todd's mother's wedding ring, since he had neither money nor time to get a special ring.
Puck
-
little richard but the golden ballon wedding had to be the antique wedding dress, it is on the same tape as Brown Penny and Alex being elected mayor (some sweeps that was) and it was in November right before Todd was "killed" by the men of 21 so it must have been the second? or am I more confused than I thought. (dont' answer that)
cw
-
Okay, last OLTL quiz question....so easy, I won't even post the choices, cuz I bet yall know! ..........................................Which recording artist presided over Bo/Nora's 1995 nups?
Puck
-
According to the magazine, it's D, A, B, C. I think I've WATCHED all those weddings, but darned if I remember even a single one of those gifts!!!!
Puck
-
And speaking of tape recordings of crimes, I'm not sure how Ric thinks he has a case against Jason, based on a tape recording on it that has, exactly, "Morgan......(two quick light noises, and one thump)". oooooooh, rock solid evidence there!
Puck
-
Marty has a "recovered memory" that she killed Spencer. Jury is still out on if she in fact did it. Miles stole the tape that the shrink made during the sesion that Marty recovered the memory.
cw
-
I think I have the 95 weddings correct so switch the 2001 ones. The difference is in 95 Patrick was on the canvas and in 2001 he wasn't.
cw

So Marty killed Spencer? How did Miles find out??
Night Owl
-
So Marty killed Spencer? How did Miles find out??

Puck

(1) Dorian's great-grandmother's wedding dress (d) T/B's second 1995 wedding (2) an antique clock that must be wound every night (a) T/B's first 2001 wedding (3) Todd's mother's ring (c) T/B's second 2001 wedding (4) a baby (b) T/B's first 1995 wedding I have no idea! The first wedding was a quickie in Florida or somewhere, wasn't it? The second was the "Gold" wedding? I remember she did wear a vintage dress. Oh, the baby thing ... first she lied, then she really was pregnant, right? Was that Starr?? Poor girl has had a few miscarriages ... And where is that clock now? Wouldn't it be sweet to see Blair & Starr & even Jack take turns winding it while Todd is away??
Night Owl
-
(1) Dorian's great-grandmother's wedding dress,(b) T/B's second 1995 wedding (the one with the golden ballons) (2) an antique clock that must be wound every night, a) T/B's first 2001 wedding, , , (3) Todd's mother's ring, (d) T/B's first 1995 wedding. (4) a baby (Jack)......(c) T/B's first 2001 wedding(
cw
-
Match the wedding gifts Blair received with the corresponding event: (1) Dorian's great-grandmother's wedding dress, (2) an antique clock that must be wound every night, (3) Todd's mother's ring, (4) a baby......(a) T/B's first 2001 wedding, (b) T/B's first 1995 wedding, (c) T/B's second 2001 wedding, (d) T/B's second 1995 wedding.
Puck

Night Owl wins this round! And since there's a question of how many times Blair/Todd have been married, let's muddy the waters some more with our next quiz question!
Puck
-
So, if you have a wedding and don't get married, is it still a wedding? Or your third or fourth ... I don't even know how many times Todd & Blair have been married! How about John McBain & Blair????
Night Owl
-
BTW, yes, I do know how to spell my name! Christine, congrats on ridding your son of the evil step-mom. My son has mild Aspergers, and most of the time he seems quite "typical". Not much for sports. Like I tell my DH, some kids can throw a fast ball, some kids can hold an intelligent conversation w/adults!
Night Owl

Puck

Oh, geez, which one was their 3rd wedding?? Could ya give me some idea of location & what they wore?? I'm gonna take a guess and say ... (d) Not a chance.
Night Owl

Janet, I hate to tell ya, but Patrick is dead. At least, according to Marty!!
Night Owl
-
Oh sure, Anita beats me to the punch while I'm trying to cut'n'paste ....
Night Owl
-
And since we're on an OLTL roll, here is another OLTL wedding quiz question..........What was Todd's response Blair/Todd third wedding, when asked if he would take Blair, blah blah blah?......(a) I do, (b) Hell, no. (c) Hell, yes, (d) Not a chance.
Puck
-
Anita -- excellent! Wow, you've got a great soap memory!!!......................just had to stop by because John McBain has the best ad-libbing on the show. (I assume it's ad-libbing, since the writers haven't written anything decent in forever). Blair is wearing a white shirt with white frou-frou all over it which, if you look closely, seems to be vaguely military-ish, with epaulets, etc. So, yesterday, John referred to her as "The Drum Major". I 'bout fell out of my chair!
Puck
-
I am not watching oltl and I hate to ask, but now that Marty is back . . . and single . . . how did they explain (sob) Patrick?
Janet

Night Owl

OLTL -- Match the wedding and wedding crasher! (1) Andrew/Cassie 1993--(c) Marty / (2) Todd/Blair 2003--(d) Tina / (3) Cord/Kate 1987--(a) Suzanne / (4) Asa/Samantha 1981--(b) Nicole/Olympia
Night Owl
-
Puck, this one is easy .. (3) Cord/Kate 1987 Tina crashed this one, back from the dead, over the falls..with baby Al, passing him off as her son (lost over the falls but later found..and Al eventually went back to Gabrielle) 4) Asa/Samantha 1981 crashed by (b) Nicole/Olympia, Asa's first wife, mother to Clint and Bo..everyone thought she was dead but Asa had her tucked away somewhere.. Samantha Vernon was the young daughter of Dr. Vernon, the local psychiatrist..and little sister to Brad Vernon...who was married to Jenny WOlek for a while...Jenny eventually married Cassie's Dad,.. David Renaldi.. he was played by ?? Zaslow, who came back later in an ALS storyline and then died in real life... 1993 Cassie/Andrew...had to be Marty..she came on the scene as a troubled teen causing problems for Andrew..with allegations that were false.. so that leaves Suzanne for crashing Blair/Todd's wedding...but for the life of me I can't remember her.
Anita

Kathleen -- I agree. There was interest, and some magic, in watching the innocent lonely boy negotiate a world that expected him to be much more mature than he was. Even the scenes with the prostitute were touching and sweet in their own way. Now he's just a creep...............................CW got two right, but reversed Hayley/Mateo and Nico/Cecily. Good work, though! I missed that one completely. New one coming up.
Puck

And when is Officer Sayid gonna step it up with Antonio? The poor guy has lost so much, he could really use some lovin' ;-)

Anita wins!!!! Another question coming up........................................................................I totally agree with you, Cat, on the Marty/Miles storyline. It's so convoluted, it's stupid. Marty, in both her private and professional lives, has had plenty of experience with the law. She would know there are psychological reasons that excuse murder, and the mere fact that she couldn't even recall the event without help should say something! It's the most ridiculous storyline ever. And, frankly, I was waiting for her pronouncement that they might get married, but that they would NEVER have sex. Someone who's been raped, I think, would not be so easily able to have sex without someone they feel is coercing them, right? I'm just appalled by the whole story.
Puck
-
Cat, well Marty did talk to a lawyer about confessing...I don't know if it was her lawyer or someone hired by Miles though..but I totally hate the whole storyline..ugh..it's worse then when Marty went ahead and married Dylan and that was pretty bad!
Anita
-
Puck, I must have been thinking of Felicia's wedding to Cole.. I think then that this was the wedding that had Ryan with a bomb (was Ryan the evil twin to Kevin?...was this on both PC and GH? or was that yet another wedding? maybe that wedding was when they finally did get married!
Anita
-
Since when is Marty dumb and poor? Why would she just take that psyco Miles's legal analysis without checking with a lawyer? Her discussion is priveleged and inadmissable, he broke the law by stealing it, and she could claim justifiable homicide, as she was saving Blair from rape, at least. I hate stupid plots.

Anita - I'm on a generic of Augmentin. I checked the side effects online, but there was nothing about drowsiness. Oh well, if that's the only side effect I experience and the drug works, I can deal with it through Monday.
LisaG
-
okay, I see you are taking augmentin....that's a form of amoxicillin...I've taken it in the past but can't anymore. I don't remember if it made me tired or not... thats good the bite is to the finger..the worst cases I've seen have been into the hand...and into the flexor tendon...where infection can spread into the wrist too. I think the worst one I saw was for a claim I handled for a vet tech who didn't take it seriously at first and the infection had set in before he sought medical treatment...including 14 days of in home IV antibiotic treatment!
Anita
-
Kathy -- we never really met him. The story goes, Mr. Santi (can't remember his name) was a Latino mobster. Around the time Carlotta Santi married Mr. Vega, Mrs. Santi and baby Tonio were in a car accident, and with her dying breath, she begged Carlotta to take the baby away from that world, Carlotta ran away with Mr. Vega, all the way to Llanview. Then at some point, Mr. Santi met Dorian and had an affair with her, which resulted in Adriana. Carlotta helped place Adriana with that other family in Puerto Rico. So, Adriana and Tonio are half-siblings, Carlotta is aunt to both, but she raised Tonio as her own, along with her own son Cris, so she is also mother to the boys. .....................................whew, a typical soap story, eh?!??!
Puck

Lisa..yes, many of the stronger antibiotics cause drowsiness....I've been on many lately for my chronic recurring sinus problems that just knock me out. Also cause lightheadedness so be careful on a stepstool or ladder. What are you taking? I've taken a lot of Levaquin lately..it's strong but works well for me. Omnicef is another I've had good luck with...and one other I can't recall, begins with an A but it was horrible...stronger but didn't work as well for me. I have recently become allergic to penicillan so many common antibiotics are no longer an option.
Anita
-
Has anyone ever heard of antibiotics making you drowsy? I know I got back late from the ER, but I could go for a nap right now!
LisaG
-
Anita - I don't think this bite was too deep...as soon as I gasped, he let go and I immediately bled it under hot water, soaked it in hydrogen peroxide and washed that away with alcohol. The bit was in the end of the finger, not near the joint and so far it looks good (knock-on-wood) and the horse pill antibiotics I'm taking (augmentin) will keep away any infection. I'll know for sure in a couple of days if all the danger has passed.
LisaG
-
Puck, who is Mr. Santi? I don't think I remember him.
Kathy, KY

Lisa, I take it back. My neighbor had all sorts of complications from her kitty's accidental bite. I'd forgotten. Do they also give tetanus because it's a puncture wound? Glad you are on top of it. I guess I was just thinking of all the little nips our cats gave us over the years but they were pretty tiny(and we weren't very enlightened). LOL, the culprit's name is scooter. That looks good on a form. You have to report any dog bite to the animal control officers here and they investigate. we have cute little bunnies in our neighborhood. we don't see them much as they probably sense our dogs in the yard, but rumor has it they are breeding . . . well, like rabbits . . . in the back yard and former garden of a deserted home. we're all unhappy about the deserted home - owner won't sell or rent it . . . maybe the plague of bunnies will help the mayor to deal with the family. the owner's afraid her husband will take all the money from the rent or sale of her mom's house so lets it sit. I think she's a few tacos short of a combination plate, so may not be someone that will listen to reason.

okay, I took too long to post, I see Lisa already did research on how debilating cat bites can be. hope you heal quickly.

hi all.. Merfuff...Jack had an affair many years ago with Mary Smythe..before she married Roger Smythe...Mary passed the child off as Roger's but Greenlee was really Jack's child.. I think the truth came out after Roger's death..and after Greenlee learned all the horrible things Roger had done (wasn't he having an affair with Simone?)... Lisa, be careful with your wound..cat bites can be nasty...I remember handling many work comp claims for vets and vet techs bitten by a cat...many needed a couple weeks at IV therapy...ugh!! Their fangs can bite deep...hope you didn't get it in the flexor tendon ..that's the one that seems to lead to serious problems. Not trying to scare you, just want to make sure you take all your antibiotics and be sure to follow up if not improved..left untreated it could become serious. We're gearing down for the last day of school....4 more days...I helped out in Katie's class today.. they had an end of year party and birthday cupcakes for all the summer birthdays...amazingly half the class is born in June, July or August!! 9 of the 18 kids! Katie volunteered me for cupcakes...and was very specific they be store bought, half of them all chocolate, half all white....:) she knows what she wants! ...... funny kid story..one of her friends does cheerleading and after she finished telling me all about it I asked her...."so, is cheerleading something you want to do too?" ... ... ... her reply "no, I'd rather play and have someone cheer for ME!" So cute! she loves sports...
Anita

Lisa -- so, can it be debilitating? *snicker* Okay, that was bad of me..............................LOL at the Vicious Scooter............and speaking of very cute things, have yall seen this commercial with Maria Sharapova and her dog? Oh and I take all the blame for the bite...I got him overly excited playing with a sheet of paper and hid my hand underneath it, when WAM! he just bit. ----------one part was kinda funny when they had to fill out a bite report at the ER...."animal's name?" "er...scooter" How vicious! ;)

LOL...ok, I guess from my last post you can see cat bites can be "very debilitating". Sorry for the overuse of phrase.

Hi Janet - If you research online, cat bites can be very debilitating...sometimes requiring surgery! They say the infection rate is probably around 80% and if not treated properly and quickly, it can be very debilitating.

Christine, when they were searching a lake about 150 miles from here for two known drowning victims, they found SEVEN bodies. New sonar equipment helped them locate five more remains of people missing for years and presumed drowned. It's incredible, the way technology advances.

Lisa, I've never heard of cat bites being too dangerous and I'm sure your kitty didn't mean to hurt you. Sounds like you are taking good care of it. . . . . . my motherboard had a meltdown and I'm looking at a new computer. Thank goodness I have a refurbished laptop with wireless internet cuz I had to get two manuscripts (about 30 pages) emailed to an upcoming writing workshop. And thank goodness for hared copies and flash drives so I didn't lose vital stuff I needed. . . . . puck, great news for sweetie, hope school goes well for him .. . . . and anita, the girls are precious, and of course very intelligent!

Cathi - My thoughts are with you during what must be a very difficult and stressful time....I hope the road gets smoother for you soon....you deserve it! Lesson of the day...do NOT play with your cat using your hand! I did that and got a bite, then a 3 hour trip to the ER to get it checked and to get antibiotics. :( Here's hoping the cleaning and disinfecting I did right away along with the antib's do the trick! Stupid me!

Cathi~ I'm sorry to hear about Bill. I'll pray for both of you. Yes, E&B wrote the vampire stories on PC. They were also writing for Loving when it was cancelled. Guiding Light wasn't cancelled when they worked there, but it did get pretty awful for a few years.

Christine, do they have a suspect?........... On another topic, I'm very relieved your son won't have a stepmother who's always on his case about what she has "diagnosed." He sounds like he's doing great and his life (and yours) should be happier if she's out of it.

I think the answer is Elsie May Crumbholts. Norma Jean Baker was Marilyn Monoe, Francis Gumm was Judy Garland, and Vicky Lee Hogan was Anna Nicole Smith. Lisa, sounds like you had a lovely trip! Janet, my condolences to your DIL. A loss is a loss and that had to be a difficult one. :( Cathy, good to hear from you. Sorry things are so rough with Bill, buthopefully being near family will help. Hello Everyone! Just a little update on the latest. First I want to say I hope all is well with everyone. I have been quite busy at work and with Bill. The news is that we are moving back to California some time this summer. I am transferring so the company is paying for our move. Bill's health isn't getting any better. I can't do this alone anymore. I will be closer to the kids; not only that I will get back to working 40 hours rather than 60. I have only had three weekends off since the first of the year and I am TIRED. Bill had a tumor in his thyroid the size of a small plum. Less than 1% of nodules are cancerous, and of course Bill's ended up being cancerous. Not only that it ended up being medullary cancer. He has to go back for another surgery June 26 to have a complete neck dissection; in other words the remainder of his thyroid taken out plus surrounding tissue and lymph nodes. This type of cancer does not respond to iodine radiation therapy. I am looking forward to living closer to the kids even though I am going to miss all the wonderful people I work with here. I will try to keep in touch more often. Take Care Everyone. Again, Cat Etain is beautiful; seeing her beautiful picture almost brought tears to my eyes.

May I wish upon a star, for OLTL? I want the racist OPP person to be Tate, because I can't stand the character. I DO NOT want it to be Tate's father, because I love Johnny Gage, and I think he'd be great with Viki...or practically any other woman on the canvas!!! And it would make his romance with Adriana interesting -- does he not know she's Puerto Rican? If he's the racist, then I can't wait for the reveal of Adriana's "bad blood"! It would be cool!

Anita - I have that D80 as well, and love it! It's being looked at now, though, because of the little spots you see in Etain's photo. They show up on all the shots, and they aren't on the lens. Otherwise, a fabulous camera.

Speaking of events...a bomb at the hospital? That's an event alright........................On another topic, did anyone watch Pirate Master last Thurs? It's the mid-season fill-in for Survivor , and it's pretty amusing. My machine taped it while I was gone but I forgot to put a new tape in, so I had only gotten to see the first half-hour or so. Luckily I found that you can watch the whole danged thing via internet, so I just got caught up. The original treasure chest that they found purportedly had $40K in gold coins, divvied up unequally between the Pirate Master, his two first mates, and the rest of the pirates. One pirate was set adrift at the end of the show, and they're on to finding more booty next week. Campy as all get out (arrrgh, mateys!) but amusing.

From TVGuide.com:_______________ One Life to Live Head Writer Fired!______________ Erika Slezak by Donna Svennevik/ABC__________I have good news for all you Llanviewers who've been bitching to me about Evangeline's coma and other disappointments on ABC's One Life to Live: Head writer Dena Higley has just been fired! Co-head writer Ron Carlivati is promoted to head writer, effective immediately. Carlivati has been a staff writer at OLTL for the past 11 years. After graduating from law school at George Washington University, he briefly worked as a corporate lawyer before switching gears to pursue a career as a soap opera scribe. He started off as an OLTL writers' assistant in 1996 and later toiled as a breakdown writer before rising to the top job. "Ron's commitment and contribution to One Life to Live's writing staff makes him an excellent choice to take on head writing duties," executive producer Frank Valentini said in a statement. "He has a contemporary sensibility, a quick wit and, above all, a tremendous passion for the stories in Llanview." "For years Ron's talent has helped develop and deliver the kind of cutting edge, emotional storylines fans have come to expect from One Life to Live," Disney-ABC honcho Brian Scott Frons added. "His evolution from staff writer to co-writer over the last decade has increased his creative influence on the show. His passion for the characters and their fans make him the perfect choice to lead the storytelling into the future." The execs offered no comment on the reason for Dena Higley's sudden departure. Ahem. Back in March, Erika Slezak — who has won six Daytime Emmys for her portrayal of Llanview heroine Viki Lord Davidson — made no secret of her displeasure with Higley's work. "I hate to say this, but Dena will push the envelope in any direction," Slezak said in her March '07 fan newsletter. "She wants to write stories that she thinks are interesting but nobody else does. She doesn't write stories, she writes events. It's like one event — let's have a bomb, let's have a plane crash — but there is no story." Amen sister! True confession, suds fans: OLTL is my favorite daytime soap, despite its problems. I watch Slezak and the rest of this show's fabulous cast — many of whom have worked on Broadway — and I can't help but think OLTL could be so much better than it is.

I mean, we had video in Finland - just SIL's camera in Sweden, and she doesn't take many pics. Doesn't have an imagination when she does, either. And Stockholm is such a gorgeous city. The window displays were stunnning . . . the buildings just beautiful, and nothing I could do about it.
Janet
-
Elessann, my digital camera died at the beginning of our trip to Finland and Sweden and I was sick. DIL took pics and her dad took video in Sweden, and I do have some gorgeous pics of Finland from our last visit, but I would have taken a ton in Sweden. My SIL had her old 35 mm point and shoot and took a few for me but I would have taken dozens . . . our hotel lobby was a library with a circular bookcase right in the middle, floor to ceiling! And so much detail on buildings, and some hilarious signs . . . I look for those when I travel, so won't have much from Sweden. I noticed Consumer Reports just came out with a review of digital cameras so I will look at it. It was too expensive to replace what I had there, and also it would have had the wrong kind of adaptor (though my old one was still OK. I love the rechargeable battery - it's always worked to have one in the camera and one already charged up. And a big memory card is worth it. Since my camera is more than a year old I am sure the warranty has expired and repair probably would be pricey - so may just get the next generation, not sure.
Janet

Puck, have they recommended recumbent stationary bike? That's what I have used before and after knee issues, and of all things, the new gym I joined doesn't have one - just the upright ones with skinny seats. I need the low one with back support. They say they're trying to get a recumbent one . . . you're not too young for knee issues, but I'm sorry you're having them. Do you use ice? Anti-inflammatories?

I have a question someone may be able to answer. I was watching OLTL the other day and found out that Christian and Antonio are cousins and not brothers. I know they said Carlotta raised them as brothers, so who is his parents? Thanks

Howdy Y'all, I have a suggestion about digital cameras, since I've been burned before -- have a spare memory card, and maybe even a USB card reader, in case your memory card decides to lock up and/or "lose" your photos. This has happened to me a couple of times (both the camera's malfunctioning and Operator error (Grumpy "deleted all" by accident when he was trying to take my picture in the middle of a vacation). If you have a spare memory card, you can insert that one and use it until you can get your original memory card back to a computer and then you can scan the card to see if you can recover the images. I ended up purchasing a Photo Recovery software pkg (reasonably priced at about $30) and it has saved my bacon (and my photos!) on several occasions. It'll "find" lost photos that were taken since the last time you formatted your card, even those that you deleted on purpose. Yeah you rite, I seem to have lost my "censor" button when taking digital photos since I can discard them before I incur the cost of printing. Nowadays it's not the availability of unexposed rolls of film that limits me, it's the availability of battery! (I always seem to forget to bring a spare when I'm out with my camera). And the best part of digital photos is that you can make your own screensaver out of them when you get back from a trip so you can re-live your visit over and over again.

Whew, it's been so long, hasn't it!? Well, about 20 years, I was working at a stable, when I twisted my right knee as I fell into a hole in the pasture. Over time, it hurt now and then. About a month ago, I started walking around the block to try to lose weight, and I really aggravated BOTH knees! They think both meniscii are torn (MRI next week), plus I have arthritis -- I'm only 39!!?!??!?! Anyway, the physio is to try to strengthen for surgery or even to push back surgery. PUsh back works for me -- it has a 2 month recovery period, and I can't take time off during the school year (Fall and Spring semesters), and there's no time this summer....so it has to wait until NEXT summer! If I'm lucky, we won't need the surgery at all. Yeah, I know -- fantasy land, there!
Puck

And one more, since I'm such a sucker for kitties myself -- Bless you, Diane, for all your work with the animals. You should feel good knowing you've made a difference. Cuatro is one of your own kitties, isn't it? I think I remember you telling about traveling across the country with it. And, yes, menopause does take it's toll on you. I recently read an article where it said hot flashes are usually over in two years, and as soon as I read that I thought, it must be written by a man!!! lol Anyway, be sure and carve out some relaxation time for yourself.

Ooooooh....I forgot about Sawyer's kid....interesting! And he's definitely someone that could change his name. But Kate basically said...why would she go to the viewing? Then again, their perspectives were completely different....Jack still hung up on everything and wanting to go back, and Kate seeming indifferent to the whole thing. Weird! Could be because things kind of reversed....presumably Kate's life was now 'normal' and Jack's fell apart. I tend to think there's some element of time travel involved...i.e. by leaving the island they majorly messsed with fate. Ben and Locke both warned him not to leave....Ben said everyone would die (could have been an empty threat or again that fate thing) Could be why Jack's dad is alive. OR Jack is just so drunk/drugged up he forgot his father died. This show is so confusing, yet riveting!

jennifer - the weather was so-so, but that was probably for the best, since we were walking so much and having the sun only peaking out occassionally (partly to mostly cloudy) helped to keep us cooler. We had a bit of rain every day, but mostly just light to sprinkles and only for a short time. Only two days did we have pouring rain and once was for only 30 minutes and we were in an abby then lunch...the other was the last afternoon on Friday and my sister and I wisely opted out of that walk with a couple of others to shop in Pienza.----------I didn't purchase much, just a few small ceramic pieces, a salami and pecorino romano cheese. Customs confiscated the salami...something about mad cow disease, or some ridiculous excuse. I'm sure he was just hungry! But better to loose only $6 than to be fined $300 if they found it on their own.

Morning (5:01 PDT / June 5): Love all the discussion about LOST. No, I don't think they are going to repeat any of the shows for this third season. People had complained of the reruns and that is one of the reasons they stopped airing so we would have 13 straight weeks or whatever it was. Personally, I like the reruns to pick-up on things and hated not having them. NOW we have to wait so long for the DVD to be out. They could lose another batch of fans, although I'll continue to watch. This season definitely ended on a "must see TV" note IMHO. __________ Welcome back Lisa!!! Trip sounds like a lot of fun. Wish my sister wasn't such a flake. I'm tempted to go to Costa Rica in October, but with her life style I doubt I would survive. I'm just not quite that adventerous anymore. _____________ Yes, a digital camera is rather nightmarish in regard to the amount of photos you end up taking. LOL . . . . Upside is you don't have to pay for photos that didn't quite work. I just had to buy one for the kids because with my eyesight I could just no longer focus my dear Canon AE-1. I may pull it out and use up the film I still have. I think I've had it for like 30 years and it still takes incredible pictures - when focused. :)______ What was the weather like in Tuscany? Will want to hear all about the trip. Cooking class sounds like a lot of fun. What a great place for that!!
jennifer
-
Hi again...I've been spending the night digging through my work emails (all 200+...ick!) and organizing my vacation photos. Boy, when you have a digital camera, you really can get carried away! I took over 460 pictures! It was a walking tour of Tuscany...my sister and I went together to several small towns, including Montalcino, Radicofani, Montepulciano, Pienza, etc. It was truly like walking through a calendar of Tuscany which was exactly what we wanted. We trekked a lot of miles each day (8-10), but we also got to do some shopping in Pienza, a cooking class where we made lunch including gnocchi and biscotti, and also a wine tasting at an ancient, yet still functioning winery. I highly recommend it...the touring group is The Wayfarers. Well, I'm exhausted...night all!

LisaG, I am jealous.... Italy! How beautiful that must have been. ______________ I wonder if the person found hung is Michael too. You guys are going to get me to start watching it again. ARe they going to repeat this past season? If so I might just catch up as it sounds like it is getting better.

Kathleen; most interesting. It was a name that meant something to Jack, anyway. I think I miss about half of what really happens on that show!
Janet
-
Re: Lost (I'll stop, I promise!)...the funeral parlor name, Hoffs-Drawlar, is an anagram for 'flash forward'! I read that, didn't notice it myself.
Kathleen

A quick switch to OLTL: a little over the top that there are bombs exploding during the Jess/Antonio transplant surgery. The whole thing was a bit much already!
Kathleen

Some think that it's Michael b/c he's from NY and maybe Walt would be a teenager by then. But the name doesn't make sense...unless he changed his name! Could be anybody I think...
Kathleen
-
As for who's in the coffin...here's the text from the article Jack ripped out of the newspaper before going to the funeral home. It doesn't spoil anything since the name is not one we 'know'...or maybe we know them but not their real name...or maybe they'll change their name in the future...or....who knows! Here's the text: "The body of John Lantham of New York was found shortly after 4 am in the 4300 block of Grand Avenue. Ted Worden, a doorman at the Tower Lofts complex, heard loud noises coming from the victim's loft. Concerned for tenants' safety, he entered the loft and found the body hanging from a beam in the living room. According to Jaime Ortiz, a police spokesman, the incident was deemed a suicide after medical tests. Latham (sic) is survived by one teenaged son. Memorial services will be held at the Hoffs-Drawlar Funeral Home tomorrow evening."

Lisa - sounds like a marvelous trip - - do spill some details! Kathleen, i wouldn't be surprised if the people involved in the bridge accident are connected with Jack or other losties, either past or future. That's part of the fun, recognizing a familiar face and saying, hey, isn't that Sawyer's old girlfriend? in a conversation with Kate, who will meet him later.
Janet
-
Welcome back, Lisa! Janet- you're right...I got confused. I guess the speculation was that the person that almost died was a lostie, or perhaps related to one of them. Some say it could've been Juliet's sister (because of the little boy). Just seems like everything that happens on that show is 'connected' to something or other!
Kathleen

Welcome back, Lisa! Any pictures to share?
Puck

LISA - I didn't know you were in Italia!!!! How was your trip???!!! I'll bet it was so beautiful. And yummy.

Buon giorno, tutti!! I'm baaaack! And waiting for the jet lag to kick in...then again the story of getting home from Florence is a saga in and of itself! Anyway... First of all, a BIG congrats to Cat on the birth of baby Etain Violette...sorry it's taken me so long, but the GB and I have been out of pocket for so long. Second of all, a TREMENDOUS thanks to Paul for getting us back up and running!

Kathleen: The woman Jacked pulled out of her car had surgery and was going to be OK, and her little boy had his arm in a sling, so I don't think anybody died in that accident on the bridge but could have missed something. Jack on the bridge was the distraction that caused the accident, tho . . . I like your theory that this stuff MIGHT have happened in the future . . . cuz Kate didn't seem warm at all with Jack when they met at the airport, almost like a stranger, and poor Jack was as messed up as his dad...would hate to think some of my favorites would end up that way! Also, as he was on painkillers I wonder if he got hurt and then hooked on the pills. And when he couldn't get them he turned to booze.
Janet
-
Janet - sorry! Meant the car accident on the bridge where Jack was jumping from. Could be an unrelated person, or could be someone connected to the Losties. Some speculate that those who left the island start dropping like flies, and that is one of them (and obviously the person in the coffin). There's also some speculation that perhaps that whole episode was just one perspective of what COULD have happened....
Kathleen
-
Kathleen: which accident would that be? So many of the Losties and Others have perished, I have to keep score. But the identity of the person in the casket will be puzzling me until Feb. or whenever they choose to stop teasing us. I'd like to think there's a simple solution a la Swiss Family Robinson. When rescue came, some chose to stay, others to go. But then again the island is magical and obviously some people don't want it 'discovered.' Rousseau said as much when she led the losties to the radio tower: she would be a misfit back in the real world so she planned to stay on the island. . . . Charlie's death was well done. . . and even at the end des tried to take his place. So whatever act of "cowardice" caused Des to be locked up in the brig in a previous life will be interesting to learn, if we ever do, because it seems to me that he and Charlie were both heroes. It was touching when Aaron wailed at the same moment Charlie drowned. And who the heck was Naomi, if she wasn't hired by Penny, and who are the guys on her ship? From what I read on the site Josie mentioned, "Jacob" is a real "force" or being of some kind and we'll hear more from him. But John heard him and Ben didn't, which is why i guess Ben wanted to get rid of John. . . . another question I'd havd is that the producers have mentioned several times that Kate blew up the home where her stepfather was sleeping. Actually, he was her biological father and she knew it at the time. Even though she'd always regarded him as her stepfather, she did learn the truth (when she was putting together the photo album for the man she'd always believed was her real father), and couldn't bear it.
Janet

Thanks, Kathleen! See, the GB is really a collection of really smart people. I love this place!
Puck

Kathleen, thank you for the information! Glad to know it was something "legit."
Janet
-
Good morning! I do agree that the melody was simliar to 'Clementine', but it wasn't....it was Carnaval De Paris and the artist is Dario G. I didn't know that, just looked it up :) Re: Lost....I'm dying to know who was in the coffin too! I also want to know who died in the accident, as that may be pertinent too. Some say the person in the coffin may be someone we haven't 'met' yet!
Kathleen
-
PUCK: Let's hope we were. :) jennnifer, sounds like you'll have a lovely holiday with family, and Samantha and sawyer are lucky kids.
Janet
-
Janet -- I noticed the "Clementine" rhythm, too! Thought I was imagining it.
Puck
-
Puck, I thought the music was better this season, overall. Laila dancing to Tom Jones "She's a Lady" was perfect. Some of the tunes were a bit odd, and I think the wrong music can really hurt the dance. Some were just MEANT to be danced to, and fit the personalities well. Apolo's Doble (sp?) music sounded strangely like "Oh, My Darlin' Clementine." Plz tell me it wasn't! . . . thanks for the lost link, josie, it's full of interesting info, much of which I had forgotten or never knew in the first place.
Janet
-
I remember during one season (maybe season 2), they showed what happens "after the show", and one thing was that they are "assigned their music", and I recall watching the dancers getting CDs and being surprised or happy when they read the title of this or that song. So, I think someone else chooses the music. Although they change things every season, so who knows how it's done now!!!
Puck
-
Sat/10:07 PDT Sawyer in the coffin? I'd rather NOT! ;) _________ hmmmm . . . .forgot about Nathan Fillion and "Kate." That would make sense. _____ I enjoyed DWTS and was very glad Apollo won. I liked Laila as well. Mainly because of her attitude and she wasn't a size 0. Joey was good as well. The music has had me scratching my head since season one. What was the song Apollo danced the Paso to? It soooo didn't fit IMHO. _____ Gorgeous here today (heading for 82 degrees) and here I sit working. Oh, well. I drove into work 3 times last week. (Runs about $30 a day for gas and parking.) So . . . . ______ I'm staying with the kids on Wednesday so will be driving in that day. Will have Samantha's "pre" birthday party. They are tossing another monster party for her - 41 guests. Ridiculous, but at least they aren't spending $50,000 on the party. I heard a news report about people tossing these kinds of parties for kids one year old. Most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in my life. The "Sweet Sixteen" parties are bad enough, but a party like that for a one-year old? Even a 5-year old. With all the starving children in the world, wouldn't $$ be better directed elsewhere when you've got that kind of $$ to spend?
jennifer
-
Puck, don't the professionals in DWTS pick their own music? Also I think Apolo totally should have won. I don't think Joey deserved the good scores he got, it was all show and little dancing. Apolo's level of difficulty was consistently higher than Joey's and Lila's.
cw

I think Kate went home to Nathan Fillion, her real love. I think Sawyer was in the coffin. Jack just went to the viewing because he hoped other survivors would be there.

jennifer: look at the link Josie provided. There's a lot of good info there. I'm spending some time there this morning to postpone some things I HAVE to do! I thought the obituary affected Jack personally . . . somehow I thought he cared about the person, but that could be my take on it. Certainly Kate didn't appear to be moved by learning about the death. So I was thinking: who would Jack care about that Kate wouldn't care about? Or if it is Ben, Jack would feel guilt, and might feel responsible if it was related to the tumor Jack thought he had successfully removed. Also, Jack regrets leaving the island and not listening to Ben (But Ben had admittedly lied to them so often he'd lost his credibility). So there is definitely a case for Ben being the corpse. I just read that the season 3 DVD won't be out until december. AAAAAgh! I didn't get everything taped and thought it would be released sooner than that. But of course they want to time it with the season 4 premiere in Feb, i guess, and isn't Feb. sweeps week? I wonder if they will lose some viewers during the dry period. However, summer's Wednesday night offerings aren't at all appealing to me. Lots of must-miss TV there.
Janet
-
Saturday, June 2 (!), 8:19 AM PDT - To continue . . . :) I didn't feel Jack was grieving for Ben. I took it more as "he told me so and I should have listened. Now look at me." And . . . . anyone have any input into the "Jacob" character. I only watched that show once and didn't see anyone, but TV Guide had a "picture" of someone sitting in the chair. I'm beyond going back through shows and putting them into slow motion or freeze framing. Even for Thorsten stuff. ;)
jennifer
-
jennifer: I agree, O'Quinn is a great actor. I hope we'll gain some insight into why Locke has changed his colors. I know Ben has a lot to do with it. The old Locke would have sat down with Jack and told him WHY he didn't think they should ever leave the island. The old Locke wouldn't have tried to convince Jack at gunpoint. But even the new Locke couldn't shoot Jack and Jack knew it. I just keep thinking of how Locke befriended Charlie and helped him kick the heroin habit, befriended Boone (that didn't work out too well), built a cradle for Claire, went hunting for everybody, organized a crew to type in the numbers into that ancient computer and hit enter every 108 minutes, the man who called Hurley "Hugo" and Sawyer "James," which I thought indicated respect . . . I don't know, Locke felt like the conscience of the island and now I'm not sure he has one.. . . and what a great bad guy is Mikhail? Did he look spooky with the eye patch under those goggles, grinning, holding the grenade? Also, I think it was Nadia who told Charlie he was a hero outside of Trafalgar square, when he chased off the thug who was trying to rob her. Interesting use of Walt in the finale, and I hope we will eventually find out what happened to Michael. . . . it could have been Ben in the coffin. It certainly made Jack grieve. Kate didn't care.
Janet

This is an interesting website: http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Main_Page It has all the storylines and every weird little clue from Lost catalogued. It doesn't make the show any less confusing, but it's fun to read.
Josie
-
Oh, and I'm not particularly thrilled with the character of Locke and how he's changed. I just REALLY like Terry O'Quinn. _____ My heart did sort of sink when we thought Sayid, Bernard, and Sun were shot and killed. Great suspense there. The creators did say there would be several deaths coming so I wasn't surprised, but glad it wasn't true.
jennifer
-
I think Ben is in the coffin. They all made it off the island. Was it Ben that told Jack he wouldn't want to go back . . . and we got a glimpse of why and what was in Jack's future. When the mortician asked Jack "friend or family" and Jack said, "neither" . . . .
jennifer
-
Yeah, but why does Locke think he has the right to keep everybody else on the island? He can just stay there if he wants to - - although of course he doesn't want its magical powers to be "discovered." Still, Locke doesn't seem like the heroic unselfish guy that we saw in season one, working for the good of the group . . . And Rose doesn't want to leave either, right, cuz her cancer went away after the crash and Bernard promised he'd keep here there (which doess't mean he can't defend the survivors against the others). I also like Juliet and Richard, hope we learn more about him. Ben is a great complex evil/twisted character, the actor has a beautiful voice, love Des, too . . . of course Sawyer is a great character, and when he shot Tom ("that's for pulling the kid off the raft") we saw his tender side for a moment . . . the Charlie sendoff was heroic. Loved Hurley cruising along in the VW bus . . . Wonder WHO was in the coffin and why Kate wouldn't have wanted to go to the viewing . . . it surely made Jack sad. . . the flash forward was a shocker! But isn't Jack's dad dead, duh - - - but he says to call his dad to come down and see who's the drunkest? So sad to see his decline. And who's Kate going home to? And after Jack finally said he loved her . . . sniffle . . . isn't she still a fugitive after she gets off the island? Anyway, it was well done, hate to wait until Feb. to see what's what. But it looks like the next 3 seasons of 4 months each will be carefully plotted and mapped out. Sometimes it's been hard to see where they're going with it, though I do like surprises if they're well done.
Janet

Ahhhh, poor Charlie, but at least Locke is alive ;-)

Hi! Don't usually do this from work - but . . I am SO waiting for 4:30, tho may leave at 4:00 today. I love LOST and stuck to it even though it was terribly difficult. I can no longer watching anything that starts at 10 PM on a weeknight so would tape and watch over the weekend. I hate the long hiatus as I like to watch the reruns because I don't always catch everything the first time through. Sometimes not even the second! I also didn't like all the others being brought in and glad they killed several of them off. Do like Desmond, Juliet and Ben. They were all great casting. I did think maybe Charlie dying was a "maybe he did, maybe he didn't" but article in TV Guide sounds like he did. That's ok. As long as they don't touch Locke or Sawyer. :) ________ Looks like I'm heading to California for my July 4th week off. Was going to just crash at home but Samantha and Sawyer's daddy wants to go down to surprise younger brother (wife expecting end of July) for his birthday. Invited me to go along and I love traveling with the kids, so away I go. AND . . . they are paying my way!!! I shall let them as I'm sure I will end up on babysitting duty, but that is just fine as any time with the kids is a gift to me.
jennifer
-
Charlie died -- Desmond told him he couldn't escape this one, and he heroically sacrificed himself -- it was a beautiful scene. Locke did not die -- the island loves him.
Puck
-
Thanks Puck....... I stopped watching Lost early this season, now I regret that I did, cause it sounds pretty interesting. I did tune in to the last minute and saw Kate and Jack in the future and of course, I couldn't figure it out at all. Did Charlie die? Or Locke?
Christine
-
I loved the LOST finale. That flash-forward, though......is it real, or is it only a possible future? I wonder who died!!.....................................As to DWTS, I was totally disappointed. I didn't think Apolo deserved a lot of the great scores they got. But I agree they were totally cute -- AND they got a lot of superior songs. I'm just amazed at some of the music they choose. Complete nonsensical in many cases! But I noticed the better dancers rarely get bad music. It begins to smell a little....
Puck
-
We were out of the country at the time, but I got caught up on DWTS from their internet site, and was very pleased at the results. I would have been tickled had Joey won, also - he was great. And Ian tried SO hard. Had a great attitude. I think time sort of ran out on him. Laila wasn't as coachable (which probably made a difference) but was a very good dancer, too, and a beautiful woman. Can't believe that Julianne is only 18! Merf is our dance expert, but IMO some of the advantages they had were their youth, of course, his excellent conditioning prior to the competition, and their comparative sizes, which made it possible for them to be very synchronized. And of course the cuteness factor, which was undeniable. What a treat to see him turn into a dancer. And tons of credit to Julianne for her teaching. Amazing. .........any LOST reactions! I was wowed by the finale and tho of course I have unanswered questions, there was a feeling of some closure and continuity, surprises, too. . . and outstanding acting, especially from Matthew Fox. . . what an ensemble that is. But we have to wait until FEB for more episodes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Will that hurt their fan base, I wonder? They take more than a week to put together an episode, which adds to the quality, but I hate to wait so long!

They don't say in SOD, and she's a gorgeous woman. She could be anything from 35-55. I'm guessing she's probably closer to 40, just from the small picture, mind you.

They had just taken a pregnancy test while we were visiting, and she was early 1st tri. So we celebrated with a toast of carbonated cider . . . But it's always a loss and nothing will fill up that hole in their hearts. Kevin's baby is due in just 6 weeks now . . . Puck, i was just wondering about you and sweetie and how your jobs were going. how wonderful for your raise and what a vote of confidence! . . . .
Janet

Janet -- that's too bad about their loss. I hope DIL is healthy and recovering well.
Puck

Congrats, Puck!! JANET - I am so sorry about the your d-i-l losing the baby. That must be so hard, especially when it's your first. She was in the first couple months of pregnancy still, wasn't she?

I had to reapply for my job again (they reclassified our positions). There were only three reclassified positions available this year, and I got one! And a huge raise! I'm so thrilled!!!!

Diane, you do need a break! Working with animals can be very rewarding but heartbreaking, too. Bless you for all the animals you have helped. We just found out that our Finnish daughter in law had a miscarriage so they are very sad. There isn't much you can say . . . Jeff is taking a couple of classes this summer so he will graduate on time (a year from now, we hope) and is also building 2 computers for a client, so he's busy as usual.
Janet
-
ANITA - I think it's a good Greenlee recast, too. I also want to smack her -- but, like you said, it's the character. I don't understand how she can just take her shares back from Babe either like that. That doesn't sound legal. JANET - ITA on TK's hair with the suits. Perfect. So glad to hear Jeff is doing so well! Does he have the whole summer off from classes? Work is scary with all the layoffs. I guess it's fairly chronic everywhere right now. You never know when your day will come when you near the news that you're jobless again. I do still help out with the dogs at adoptions. My latest dog that I worked with got a great home by the ocean -- I envy him! He had been so abused in the past so he really deserved it. But I'm trying to really phase out the rescue stuff because I'm so stressed out, and I just can't do it anymore. I have been feeling like I'm ready to crack sometimes. I really need a vacation, something I haven't been able to really take in the 12+ years I've been taking care of the cats. There are only 6 strays/ferals left now in the back of the bldg. Most all of them are at least 15 years old. Old sentry Jake died last December from squamous cell cancer. And one of my indoor cats, Cuatro, has lymphoma now. So I'm having a tough time. It's hard to have the emotional energy to deal with it all these days. I think menopause is taking it's toll on every aspect of my life. Can't wait until this is all over.
Diane
-
Indeed! TK is pretty much the only reason to watch AMC these days.
Puck

I haven't heard of a liver transplant in the case of cancer but advances are always being made. Maybe we'll see it first on the soaps :) and yes, jennifer, TK is the best looking thing on the soaps. I like his hair the way it is now - long enough to show the wave, short enough to work with the Armani suits. LOL, those suits are SO Thorsten, don't you think? Somehow I think he rehearses in sweats and a baseball cap. Just a hunch. Jeff says he's happy as a clam at Berkeley. Very busy and focused. So I think it's a good fit for him. Challenging and very demanding but I think he's equal to it. Yep, 2 grandbabies this year! It's overwhelming! Diane, how is work for you? Still fostering dogs and watching out for the feral cats under your care?
Janet
-
and OLTL...well, no one is too young to get cancer, sadly...I've seen it to many times recently. and Jessica's liver cancer is linked to the HepC, it damaged her liver...my friend Karen had ovarian cancer that metastized to her liver. I did a lot of research then. I remember reading that when liver cancer is primary, not metastized from elsewhere, it has a much higher rate of survival. I do agree though that anything serious like this is rarely depicted properly on a soap.
Anita
-
hi all....watching amc right now and think the new Greenlee is a good recast..I don't like her, but it's the character I don't like..and I think that's the way it's supposed to be. she's come back with a big chip on her shoulder and expects everyone to have waited for her. I just want to smack her, and I wish folks would just tell her to shutup and quit whining...
Anita
-
Yes, I think in real life if someone looks that badly from liver cancer, it's a cancer that has metastasized already. I don't think they put those people on a liver donor list because it's pointless at that point in the illness. But we know it's a soap. JANET - Well, my goodness, alot of grandbabies coming your way! How exciting? How's Jeff doing at school? Nice to see you, REBECCA and JOSIE!
Diane
-
I've never heard of a liver cancer that wasn't fatal. Usually it's found when cancer originating somewhere else has spread. Seems like Jessica is mighty young to have it. But as you say, it's the soaps. Ariel, good to hear your family report. Hope you hear soon from nursing school. My 3 kids are all grown up - I will be a grandma in about 6 weeks (Kevin, in Ohio) and then again in about 7 months (BJ, in Finland). So that is very exciting! Trying to get a manuscript ready for a writing workshop and 2nd guessing myself. That tends to squelch the creativity!

4:48 AM PDT - Morning Everyone. Don't know if putting the password info out is a good thing. :) I haven't been having any problems as I'm being "remembered" when I post. Just incredibly happy we are back. Puck: LOL - I agree on the Sean Montgomery shirt thing. I haven't noticed the moles because I don't look that hard. :) I just sort of cringe when they find any excuse to haul a shirt off. I've always thought leaving a shirt on unbuttoned is a lot sexier somehow. I'm not particularly thrilled with the new Greenlee recast. She does that pouty mouth thing way too much. Good casting in the look-a-like department, but I'm not particularly thrilled with the actress. She is going to cause a whole lot of problems for Zach. Maybe that is why I don't like her. :):):) Is Zach Slater not the best looking thing on that show? I know I'm terribly biased, but . . . .

Puck~ I'm enjoying the storyline with Jess's liver cancer too. I'm sure she'll have a miraculous recovery though. Soap opera cancer is never as bad as the real thing. They just take away your eye makeup for a few weeks. It's too bad Kamar had to take a sick leave just as she was telling Antonio about her affair. I usually don't like his hammy acting style, but in this case I was looking forward to seeing him gnaw some scenery. If there's ever a time to go berserk, it's when your wife confesses on her deathbed that's she's banging another dude. It's good to hear that the new Greenlee isn't too bad. I'd still feel weird about seeing someone else in the role though. I heard that Rebecca Budig might have a new primetime TV series next fall. I hope that's true. I'd like to see her on TV again.

Now that AMC is starting on the east coast, I remember another gripe I've wanted to share and haven't been able to all these weeks! It's Sean Montgomery. They need to leave that boy's shirt on! He has a pair of....um....unfortunately placed moles that appear....well.....polythelial! Supernumary mammalian!! Know what I mean?

Diane -- that's really interesting. Because when Riki the Brown Puppy died, I had a physical pain in my chest, where I used to cradle her furry head. And it still hurts sometimes.

Di, that's really intereseting about the place to hold a baby. Whta's the name of the book? Informalsurvey with moms I know who breastfeed shows that a lot of babies prefer the left breast to the right, mine always did. And, BTW, how are you doing? Gotta take the little guy to the park. bbl. :)

Cat - I wonder if you could put the username and password info somewhere at the top of the page for people to see since some are still having difficulty getting in? Just a suggestion, as long as spambots (or whatever they're called) can't get to the info. Thanks to you and Paul for your continuing work on this. Hope you've been able to take some time off for R&R and getting used to Etain's schedule.

ARIEL - Amazing how fast they grow up! They all sound like very smart children. Fingers crossed for you getting into one of those nursing schools. You would make a dynamite nurse! I've read something about when you hold a baby, the baby is right over your vulnerable area in your chest -- like your heart energy center. So after the baby gets more independent and starts to toddle, alot of women miss that time when they could hold the baby in that 'spot' because it's very very comforting and gives a feeling of well-being. This was in a book about a workshop with women from all walks of life - nurses, nuns, etc. - and they all acknowledged that spot in their chest that felt vulnerable when they were stressed. They discovered you can hold a pillow or even your own hand to that area for awhile until the feeling of comfort and well-being returns. To me, it feels like that area is 'leaking' when I'm troubled. And I can't sleep. But then I remember and hold a pillow there and then fall asleep, and I wake up with such a feeling of comfort and safety. As for the baby smell, they should put that in a can and sell it. :)

Whoops, sorry for double post. I also noticed there aren't paragraph breaks so everything I wrote is just one long, rambling b lob. I did break everything up, though. Oh well.

Hi Janet! How are things for you? We're busy. Thanks for asking.Ian is about 2 weeks from finishing 2nd grade. He's high-functioning autistic and has needed special education services, but he's doing quite well and we are working on mastering reading and math. He's going to be 9 in Dec, can you believe it? Heather is in preschool and is finishing up this week. She goes 3 days/week for 2 hours at a time and she absolutely loves it. She's a very smart, talkative girl and she keeps us really busy. Ryan will be 2 next month and he's a really busy guy. He's always trying to keep up with the other 2 and he's learning to talk. Loves getting running in the back yard and chasing balls around. We just got a new potty for him because he seems to be ready to try since he sees the bigger kids using the toliet, so wish us luck. I'm not holding my breath, though. Anyway he's a handful but a really happy little guy. He looks a lot like my fil did at this age, all blond and curls and dimples. School is going OK, but I'm taking the summer off. I've applied to 2 nursing schools and am on a waiting list for one, haven't heard from the other. If I don't get in this time around I'm probably going to take a couple more classes and look for a job, and keep trying unti8l I do get in. It seems like everyone and their brother is trying to get into nursing in this area, so there is a lot of stiff competition. It's a lot more work going to school with kids than without,so I'm glad to take a break and just enjoy the summer. Anyway that's the short version. Hope all is well with you!

And thank you for getting the GB up and running again, Cat. It's good to re-connect. Just got back from visiting our Finnish kids. Got to watch BJ coach 2 football (US style football) games. Sunday (we were on our way home) his under 21 team took the Finnish natinoal championship. Not a big sport in Finland, but a championship is a championship and he was really thrilled. Also, I'm going to be a grandma AGAIN! They just found out and were wo excited they couldn't keep the news under wraps. So we are very thrilled. Finished with 4 days in Stockholm, very beautiful and elegant city. Walking on cobblestones is murder on the feet and knees, though!

Hi all - the password is player, I think. Paul told me either would work, but players was just rejected. The html should still be turned off, so codes won't work. As the time stamp, I'll ask Paul if he knows what to do. It's probably some code in the perl script that just needs to be tweaked a bit.

Oops - the time stamp. No idea how to get that back.

Wow, CHRISTINE, that is fantastic about your son being so bright! Maybe that's why ex-stepmom felt so threatened by him. She couldn't maneuver him because he was on to her.
Diane
-
They had 2 years of wedded bliss and several years of dating prior, including during our marriage! As for my son, as someone told me on an email ADD group, let the teachers take care of his education, let the professionals take care of his health. On the great side, I found out he has a higher then average IQ. Asperger's is on the autism spectrum and is similar to high functioning autism. However, one can have mild asperger's or autism and be fairly average.
Christine
-
CHRISTINE - Wow, your ex is getting divorced already from the ice princess! I guess all her hostility towards his son was ALOT about her hostility towards him. "High probability" is not a for-certain thing so it could be something else like you suscept for your son. I guess there's no definitive test, huh? Asperger's is the mildest form of autism, isn't it?
Diane
-
Hello everyone! So glad to be back!!! Cat, congratulations on Etain.... What a lovely name. And thanks to you and Paul for getting the guestbook working. Diane thanks for getting me the login information. Been a busy time. My son's teachers did and Asperger's scale on him and rated him as high probablity for it. I still plan on having his psychiatrist recommend where we will go from here and am not "labeling" him at this time. There is still too much doubt in my mind. My ex is waging a bitter divorce from his wife. She wants child support for her kids (he never even adopted them) and alimony..... he really got what he deserved. And to think they all thought I was a bad person. Now he is living in his brothers basement. From a huge expensive home to a townhouse basement! Ha Ha! I know I am mean aren't I. My son is fine with it, he really did not like her. Anyway, everyone have a great memorial day. Cat, kisses to Etain. Thank you again.

Eh - TANE. For her story in which her name is pronounced differently: Original Fiction for Children -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A Faery Tale: The Story of Etain retold by Amanda Evans Amanda Evans is a children's author and former school librarian. Her fantasy novel, Pentalia, written for ages 8-12, is available at www.pentalia.com. Note: The Irish have legends that tell of a race of people, the Faery, who look just like normal humans, but are immortal and invisible to humans, unless they want to be seen. Pronunciations: Etain (ATE-tawn), Aengus (ANG-gus), Midir (MY-ter), Dagda (DAHG-duh), fith fath (FEE-fah), Fuamnach (FOO-ahm-nahkh) Once upon a time, long ago in Ireland, there lived a beautiful girl. She was the fairest maid in all the land and the daughter of a king. Her name was Etain. The maiden had golden tresses of hair and cheeks as red as the foxglove flower of the mountain. Her eyes were blue like the hyacinth blossom, and her skin was as white as the snow. Her body was slender, long, and soft. Etain was the most wondrous maiden that the eyes of men had ever seen. On a fine, spring day, a nobleman came to visit Etain and her father. He rode a white horse and wore a mantle of green. At his side, he carried a sword, and a silver shield hung over his back. The man dismounted and said, "Oh great king, my name is Aengus Mac Oc, and I come from the land of Faery in quest of your daughter, Etain. My foster-father, Midir, king of the Faeries, wishes to marry her." Etain's eyes grew wide with excitement at the thought of going to live with the Faeries. "I will not give her to you unless you meet my demand," replied the king. "You will clear for me twelve plains in my land so that they may be used for the grazing of cattle, homes for my people, and for games and gatherings and fortresses." Etain's heart fell, because she knew that her father's demand would take years to complete. "You will have that," said Aengus. "It shall be done." The next morning, the king's soldiers reported that the twelve plains had been cleared overnight, as if by magic. Aengus returned to Etain's father to fetch her. "I have asked the help of my true father, the Good God of the Faery, and your demand is met. Now I will take Etain with me," said Aengus. "Oh, I want to go with him!" exclaimed Etain. "I will not part with my dear daughter so easily," said the king. "You'll not obtain her until you make twelve great rivers to bring fish from the sea to my people." Etain thought that the Good God of the Faery must be very powerful to clear twelve plains in one night, but creating twelve rivers would be impossible. Again, overnight, twelve rivers appeared, coursing toward the sea. Their waters cold and full of fish, the rivers washed over the land in deep channels that had not been there the day before. A third time, Aengus appeared before Etain and her father. The king sighed and said, "I require the maiden's weight in gold and silver." Aengus left and came back with piles of gold and silver equal to Etain's weight. His men heaped it upon the floor of the king's castle. With great sadness, the king said to Aengus, "You have satisfied me. Take my beloved daughter to your father and his realm." Etain embraced her father and bade farewell to her family. Then Aengus picked her up in his strong arms and carried her to his horse. He placed Etain upon the steed's back and mounted behind her. Weaving her fingers tightly into the horse's mane, with Aengus holding both her and the reins, Etain watched her father and her sisters grow small in the distance as she was carried away from her home. Once the castle was out of sight, Aengus brought the horse to a stop and said, "Now I will place the Faery fith fath magic upon you so you may enter our realm and be one of us. You will feel nothing unusual, but mortal humans cannot see you unless the fith fath is lifted." Aengus held his hand above Etain's head and chanted, "Through the strength of sky, Light of sun, Radiance of moon, Splendor of fire, Speed of lightning, Swiftness of wind, Depth of sea, Stability of earth, And firmness of rock, I call upon the ninefold elements To make thee disappear from mortal sight." When he had finished the Faery charm, Aengus flicked the reins twice, and the horse broke into a gallop. Soon Etain saw a large house coming into view. It was a tall, stately manor with vast lands all around. There were wide, stone floors extending from each door and decorations of silver and crimson. When they arrived at the front gate, Aengus dismounted and Etain remained upon the horse. "This is your new home," said Aengus to her, "and here is my father, Midir, your husband." Etain saw a handsome, kingly man approaching. He wore a purple cape clasped with silver brooches in the shape of lions and serpents, and the crown upon his head was wrought of the purest gold. "Welcome, Etain, my wife!" he exclaimed as he lifted her off the horse. He then put his arm around her and walked with her in his gardens, speaking softly and sweetly to her. When they entered the house, a woman presented herself to Midir. "Etain," said he, "this is Fuamnach. She will show you to your chambers." Etain followed the woman, who, as soon as Midir had left, suddenly stopped and pointed to a chair. "Sit down, girl," she commanded. Etain sat. "I am the wife of Midir, and now he has brought a second woman into the house! My father is a great wizard, and I know powerful magic from him. I am much displeased with you." Glaring fiercely at Etain, Fuamnach walked to a corner of the room and picked up a wooden rod carved out of scarlet quickentree. She held it high over her head and then struck Etain with it. With that, Etain felt her clothing become wet, although there was no water in the room. She fell off the chair in which she sat and could no longer hold herself up. Laid flat upon the ground, her skin spread itself out on the cold stone floor, and her bones and organs melted into liquid. Etain was turned into a pool of water in that very spot in the middle of the house. "I must leave this place and go to the house of my father!" shrieked Fuamnach. Hearing Fuamnach's cry, Midir came to the place in which Etain was transformed. He grasped Fuamnach by the arm, and looked into her wild and frenzied face. "What have you done with Etain?" he cried. "She is gone. I have driven her off," replied Fuamnach, wrenching free of Midir's grip and angrily striding away. Midir sent swift riders to search near and far for Etain. He left the house, as it reminded him of his sorrow at losing her, not knowing that Etain was still there as a pool of water. Presently, the heat of the hearth-fire and the flowing of gentle air touched Etain on the surface of her waters. The earth moved around her, and Etain felt another transformation taking place. The fire brought her the warmth of animal life, and the air gave her breath. The earth pressed in on her, drawing out the water and making her very, very small. Etain was changed from a pool of water to a tiny worm. She crawled out of the house and found a plant with nice, green leaves to eat. After a time, she became sleepy, and she curled up under a large, flat leaf. She spun herself a silken blanket and slept for many days. When she awoke, she yawned and stretched, and two gossamer wings unfolded on her back. She had become a beautiful, purple fly. The sound of her voice was sweeter than music, and her eyes shone like jewels. Etain flew in search of her husband, Midir, and when she found him, she told him what had happened. "Fuamnach will someday pay for what she has done," he said to Etain. "Now you are with me again, my dear wife." Etain accompanied Midir wherever he went, over his lands and at home. Midir loved Etain, even as a fly, and took no other wife. When people came to Etain, their hunger and thirst disappeared, and the motion of her wings cured all sickness. In time, Midir's first wife, Fuamnach came for a visit. "You should not have cast your spell upon Etain," Midir said to Fuamnach. "It was a foul act." "I do not regret the deed I have done," replied Fuamnach, "for I would rather do good for myself than for another. I will harm Etain as long as she lives, in whatever shape she might be." Fuamnach set her eyes upon Midir's beautiful purple fly. "I know that this is Etain and that you love no other woman!" she cried. Furious, Fuamnach stirred up a wind of magic that blew Etain away from Midir. For seven years, Fuamnach's wind blew Etain. Whenever she tried to land upon a hill or tree, the wind blew harder and kept her away. The only rest for Etain was on the rocks of the sea and the ocean waves. After the seventh year, Etain came to the place where Midir's foster-son, Aengus lived, and she landed upon his shoulder. "At last I have found one of my husband's kin," she thought. Aengus looked down at the beautiful purple fly and immediately recognized that this was his father's wife, and he made her welcome in his house. "Welcome, Etain, careworn wanderer," said he. "You have met great dangers through the cunning of Fuamnach." He took her to his mansion and showed her the garden room, filled with fragrant herbs and having many windows through which the sunlight streamed. He bade her stay with him there and be happy, for Aengus was the god of the Faery who gave rest and peace to wandering souls. Etain joyfully spent her days flying in and out of the windows and resting in the sun. One morning when Aengus was out of the house, Fuamnach appeared. "You are loved and honored by Aengus, and I will not have that!" she screamed. She then summoned the same blast of wind that had carried Etain for seven years to take her away for seven more. After wandering for those seven years, Etain came to the house of a great warrior, whose wife was drinking from a golden goblet. Exhausted after so long with no rest, Etain thought, "I have been driven by wind from place to place with no chance for love or happiness. Am I to remain a fly for the rest of my days? If only I could have a new life and start afresh." Etain flew into an open window near the woman with the goblet. Her wings began to fail, and she felt herself falling through the air. As the woman raised her cup, Etain was caught within it. The woman, not noticing, took a drink and swallowed the fly. Etain felt the warmth of the woman's body fold around her, and she drifted into a deep, deep sleep. Nine months later, Etain was reborn as a baby from the woman. She was raised by her new mother and kept company with the daughters of the chieftains of Ireland. When she came of age, being once again the most beautiful maiden in all the land, Etain married the king of the chieftains. When Aengus discovered that Fuamnach had worked her foul magic upon Etain, he chased the sorceress to her father's house. There Fuamnach met her death, never to harm Etain again. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ever heed the rule of three, For all you do comes back to thee. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- copyright © 2003, Amanda Evans, all rights reserved This retelling of the story of Etain was based on a version edited by O. Cat - don't be silly. I do believe YOU had an excellent excuse. As for Paul, I don't know what his problem was. (GRIN) But do thank him profusely for keeping our dwindling group together. Very shocked this morning to wakeup at 9 AM (!) and find that we have some rain. Weatherman said it was going to be nice all weekend. Haven’t decided yet whether to go shopping as I had sort of planned or continue doing things around the house as also planned. Decisions decisions!!
